His first album featured a recording of the Beatles' "With a Little Help from My Friends", which brought him to near-instant stardom. The song reached number one in the UK in 1968, became a staple of his many live shows (Woodstock and the Isle of Wight in 1969, the Party at the Palace in 2002) and was also known as the theme song for the late 1980s American TV series The Wonder Years. He continued his success with his second album, which included a second Beatles song: "She Came In Through the Bathroom Window". A hastily thrown together 1970 US tour led to the live double-album Mad Dogs & Englishmen, which featured an all-star band organized by Leon Russell. His 1974 recording of "You Are So Beautiful" reached number five in the US, and became his signature song. Cocker's best selling song was the US number one "Up Where We Belong", a duet with Jennifer Warnes that earned a 1983 Grammy Award. He released a total of 22 studio albums over a 43-year recording career.
In 1993, Cocker was nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Male. He was awarded a bronze Sheffield Legends plaque in his hometown in 2007, and received an OBE the following year for services to music. Cocker was ranked number 97 on Rolling Stone's 100 greatest singers list.

Don't Forget Me
Joe Cocker Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Keep your feet warm,
Keep your clothes on
And don't forget me.
the memory,
But keep your powder dry, too.
In the summer
While the fireflies
Are all around me,
I'll miss you when I'm lonely,
I'll miss the alimony, too.
Don't forget me, please don't forget me,
Take it easy on me just for a little while.
You know I'll think about you,
Let me know you think about me, too.
When we're older
And full of cancer
It doesn't matter now,
Come on, get happy,
'Cause nothing lasts forever,
And I will always love you.
Don't forget me, please don't forget me,
Make it easy on me just for a little while.
You know I'll think about you,
Let me know you think about me, too.
You know I'll think about you,
Let me know you think about me, too.
The Joe Cocker song "Don't Forget Me" is a poignant plea for remembrance and connection throughout life. The lyrics explore the various seasons and stages of life, highlighting the importance of maintaining emotional ties through them all. The first stanza advises the listener to keep warm and grounded during wintertime, yet not to forget the person's presence. The second stanza set in summer portrays the vivid imagery of fireflies around and the loneliness that can still persist. The chorus serves as a heart-felt pledge between two people to not forget each other and to think about each other as life moves forward, especially during difficult times such as when old age and cancer set in.
The final line of the song "Make it easy on me just for a little while" can be interpreted as a call for compassion and patience between the two people to understand and support each other through difficult patches. The song conveys that life is fleeting and unpredictable, but that doesn't make the love and connection developed between the two people any less important.
