You Are So Beautiful
Joe Cocker Pavarotti Britti Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You are so beautiful
To me
You are so beautiful
To me
Can't you see

You're everything I hope for
You're everything I need
You are so beautiful to me
You are so beautiful to me

You are so beautiful
To me
Can't you see
You're everything I hope for

You're every, everything I need
You are so beautiful to me

Overall Meaning

Joe Cocker, Pavarotti Britti's song "You Are So Beautiful" is a powerful love song that speaks of the deep admiration and affection one has for their partner. The opening lyrics, "You are so beautiful to me," immediately set the tone for the song's message of love and adoration. The singer goes on to express how their loved one is everything they hope for and need, making them the most beautiful person in the world. The repetition of the line "Can't you see" emphasizes the singer's desire for their partner to understand just how much they are loved and adored.

This song can be interpreted in many different ways, but one common understanding is that it is an ode to the beauty found in a person's character and soul instead of just their physical appearance. The lyrics speak to the idea that true beauty is found in the way someone makes you feel and the impact they have on your life rather than what they look like on the outside.

Overall, this song is a remarkable testament to the power of love and the beauty that can be found in someone you deeply care about. The simplicity of the lyrics and the sincere emotion conveyed in the singer's voice make it a timeless classic that continues to resonate with audiences of all ages.

My friend Jamo told the story about this video--Happy Birthday in heaven to the Sweetest man on earth; Joe Cocker.. I had the pleasure to work for him in the studio numerous times. One of my favorite stories of my career was with Joe. About June, 1999 I was working for Mariah Carey as the Stage/Production manager. I advanced this show in Modena, Italy called
"Pavarotti & Friends". It was a satellite TV benefit shown all over Europe. The artists; Mariah, Lionel Richie, BB King, Gloria Estafan, and a big Italian act Zuccuro. Everybody got to do 1 song with an 80 piece orchestra and/or a 6 piece rhythm section and a duet with Pavarotti. We flew from NYC to Milan and they had a Lear jet fly us to Bologna. After I checked-in to the hotel I went down to the bar. Here's JOE COCKER sitting there. NOTHING better that being 10,000 miles from home and bumping into someone that you know.. I said; "Joe" he said "Jamo".. I had NO IDEA that he was on the show. I asked him "Did you do your soundcheck?" Everybody got a 1 hour soundcheck / rehearsal w/Pavarotti. He said "Today". "How was it?" I asked? He said; "I was fucking scared. I couldn't even look at the fucking guy". I asked; "What's your duet?" He said; "You are so Beautiful" "Great" was my response. Then Joe (who had a couple drinks in him) leaned into me and said; "You know what he said?" "My song was the hardest of all those songs for him to sing" Then he leaned closer into me and said; "That's Pava FUCKING Rotti saying that to ME!!!!" I LOVED IT.... At the gig he was there only with his road manager Ray Neopolitan. I came-in off the bench and was his crew for 15 minutes, making sure that his monitors were working and everything else was a go. He did "You Can Leave Your Hat On" with the 80 piece orchestra, and then his duet. Gargle Pavortti / Joe Cocker.. Its MAGIC Go on U-TUBE and check-out it out. Sorry to ramble-on. It was a magic moment in my career, one that I'll NEVER forget. I WAS THERE.. R.I.P. Love you...

I never thought it was possible; Joe Cocker and Pavarotti singing together as though it were perfectly normal! They not only carried it off, they both triumphed. And they showed great respect for one another!
