Promised Land
Joe McCready Lyrics

I said are you a angel? Where are your wings?
She flashed a smile In her t-shirt and jeans
I asked her, her name and most impossible dream
She said
Take me down to the promise land I've been looking for love
No words could truly say what I'm dreaming of
A never ending kind of love
Pardon me but did you see anything, when you looked in my ¬eyes
I saw the most peculiar thing, I'd ever seen in my life
I feel like I know you, thought we've never met
You seem to know every thought in my head
I think its something you know when you see
It's a beautiful consistency,
It always finds a way to shine in your darkest days
It is a answer that is found and grows with age
Your heart says
You fit right in to my life,
You're a part of me
You fit right into my life
You're a part of me
Its hard to hide inside of the mess that we've made
Then again, theres no reason to hide
Our stock goes up in every step we take,
But stays the same in both our eyes
The lyrics of Joe McCready's song "Promised Land" are a beautiful depiction of finding love and true connection with another person. The opening of the song describes a chance encounter that sparks a connection with a stranger. The singer questions whether the person is an angel, hinting at the possibility of a divine meeting that was meant to be. The chorus of the song is a plea from the woman the singer meets, asking to be taken to the promised land in search of a love that she has been longing for. She believes that no words could truly express her dreams and desires for this love. She believes that this love will be a beautiful consistency that will come back to her time and again, and that it will be a never-ending kind of love.
The second verse delves deeper into the connection between the two people, with the singer feeling like he knows the woman despite never having met her before. He experiences a sense of familiarity and a deep understanding of her thoughts and emotions. He believes that this connection is something that can be recognized on sight - a beautiful consistency that will always shine through in the darkest times.
The final verse describes the messiness of life but emphasizes the value of connection and love. The stock, or value, of their connection never diminishes in their eyes, even as they navigate the challenges that come with life. The song ends with the repeated assertion that the other person fits seamlessly into the singer's life and is an integral part of who he is.
Overall, "Promised Land" is a song about recognizing the value of a deep connection with another person, and the beauty and consistency that can be found in true love.
