In the mid-1970s, Venuti performed and recorded, again in the limelight: good examples of his latter-day recordings are the Chiaroscuro CD's Joe Venuti and Zoot Sims (CR(D) 142) and Joe & Zoot & More (CR(D)126). He died in Seattle, Washington.
Venuti was also a legendary practical joker.

What a rare mood I'm in!
Why, it's almost like being in love
There's a smile on my face
For the whole human race
Why it's almost like being in love
Like a bell that is ringing for me
And from the way that I feel
When the bell starts to peal
I would swear I was falling
I could swear I was falling
It's almost like being in love
The lyrics of Joe Venuti's song Almost Like Being in Love describe a rare and blissful feeling of being in love. The singer expresses feeling as though they have a smile on their face for the whole human race and that all of the music of life seems to be ringing specifically for them. They describe the feeling of falling in love as though they are physically falling, which conveys the intensity of the sensation.
The use of the phrase "almost like being in love" in the song title and chorus refers to the idea that the singer is not actually in love, but the feeling is so intense that it is almost as if they are. The specific word choice in the lyrics, such as "rare mood" and "the way that I feel," emphasizes the uniquely exquisite nature of the experience. Overall, the lyrics convey the power and wonder of love and its ability to elevate one's emotions and perception of the world.

Got to see him at Rick’s Cafe Americain in Chicago in 1978, Barret Deems was his drummer, bought an album , got his autograph. Sadly he passed away 2 months later. So grateful I got to see the Father of Jazz Violin live. One of the great joys of my life

My favorite track from the album GEMS, which I bought decades ago--one of many Venuti records in my house. I saw Joe play live at the Caravan Ballroom in Tulsa in 1977, and got to talk with him and show him my old Tempo Vinylite records (made with harpist Bobby Maxwell)--he was amazed that I had them. He signed 'em for me. Good ole Joe! Thanks for puting this up--

I drove Joe to the concert at the Concord Pavillon and put his chair on stage for him. His music haunts me to this day.

Joe, how cool. Can you remember any conversation with him? How was his demeanor? Stories go he was a real "jokester" back in his younger days.
