Joe and Will met in 2005, both coming from very different musical backgrounds. Joe was releasing drum and bass 12” records while Will came from the hard house and trance scenes. Their name describes their relentless passion to constantly explore genres of music, and represent their different influences within their own characteristic sound that they have become so well known for.

They started collaborating in 2007, and almost immediately drew attention from local DJs at respected nights such as Trash, as well as club promoters and indie labels. Their residencies at underground club nights soon moved into playing at some of the hottest nights in London; Matter, Trailer Trash, Durrr, Club NME, Boombox, Scala, Ministry of Sound, the Egg to name a few, as well as gigs across the UK, Berlin, Florence, Milan, Budapest, Bucharest, Lille, and Ghent..

Meanwhile their productions have been equally well received. Coming across with dirt and cutting edge production and an eye firmly on the dance floor, but also with effortless musicality not normally associated with techno, they win over fans from the band/ indie scene, as easily as diehard clubbers. They inject tonality and musical flow into everything they touch, all under the banner of techno or electro or whatever you would like to call it, and have been compared to SoulWax, Chemical Brothers, DIM and Popof.

The duo signed to Andrew Friendly’s Gulp Communications in 2008, and have released three EPs worth of material, appearing in the Cool Cuts Chart, and bringing a wide fanbase to themselves including Brodinski who said “My favourite producers of the moment”, Kris Menace, Vicarious Bliss, Casper C, Acid Jacks, AutoKratz, Dark Globe, Jody Wisternoff, Cazals, Matik, Virgin Tears to name a few. They went on to remix a wide array of artists, from the highly blogged Mystery Jets remix, to La Roux on Kitsune/Polydor, Revolver (EMI), The Bell, Jupiters Heroes, Acid Girls, Revolver, Franz & Shape, Division Kent (Sony), Circuit Freq, Milke and Atomizer. There are many other remixes in progress for the likes of Ministry of Sound, and EMI’s new priority band ‘Hockey.’

Joe and Will perform live, as well as DJing. As DJs they are adaptable who like to play to any crowd but their heart lies in techno and minimal on big systems. Live, their setup consists of the pair playing a set of their own material using laptops and midi controllers. The set is hard, and energetic with a balance of musicality to win over the indie crowds as easily as the techno crowds, hailing back to the start of warehouse rave with it’s raw energy and fist pumping breakdowns. Just witness the indie crowd at Club NME go absolutely mental to two lads behind laptops, and you quickly realise this is music that’s connecting on a primal level, with enough raw energy, guts and musicality to win over virtually any audience. And therein lies the answer to what Joe and Will asked.

Over our marriage, I moved with my ex-wife no less than five times in order for her to pursue her career. It is you both who are oversimplifying it, buddies. The biggest risk to any human is another human, not the environment which is pretty stable both on Earth and on Mars. Living here without other humans would be a breeze but we're all here aren't we? Mars will have only the best of the best, so very marginal human risk at worst. Other concerns you mentioned are negligible as they can be resolved by engineering. That being said, I do realize that most people are chickens regarding novel things until the masses are into it, so can't blame you for, well, being human. Sure glad you both won't be the ones going to Mars to fuck it up, lol.

From the RGV here!) in my own personal experience 15 years ago I moved to England from Texas & when I go back it feels completely alien to me now... also- people move on quickly- it’s quite heartbreaking but when you are the one to leave your native land, they get over you pretty quickly... First of all i want to say i love your video's. I'm an electronical Engering student from the Netherlands. I think the reason why i'm drawn to you channel and content is because you always try to tell both side of the story and are willing to lissen to both sides. Something that is being challenged now with social media platforms designed to show people what they wanna see. But lets not get to much into that now. Luckily i have highly educated friends who respect other opinions and love to argue and debat about stuff (even when they don't support the position they are defending just for the sport of it).

Just a year ago we had a debate about on vaccinating your children and if you could force that or if you can Denie them for certain schools and stuff (there was lots of alcohol and it was more for the sport of debating and getting under each others skins). So everybody was pro vaccine based on knowledge we believed we had. Me and my friends are recently debating on whether we would take to vaccine for covid. The issue i and most of my friends have is the procedure. What did they change to go 5x quicker then usual and were there politics involved. In this time, especially with the US elections there is a lot of contradicting stories going around. Its hard to find a good non politically influenced video about this. Also because lots of doctors and health instances have spoken out on governments and wrong information. This debat will pick up world wide within the next 2 months (it already has here in the Netherlands). And this is the moment to make a difference. Not by pushing people to one side but to get the baseline and facts straight from both sides. To make people agree on the facts and different concerns fist, before we start arguing about the statements. I know you not a specialist and you can not give advice. But you could hear both side out and try to find the common ground as well as make them hear each other.
So i challenge you to make a video about the prosses differences between normal vaccines and now without political arguments and showing both sides of the coin. If you want some starting questions and concerns feel free to contact me and i will ask around in my community (i also have friends who don't vaccinate at all so that could be intrestring).

It’s just a giant cache problem. If you have enough data speed you can just cache all the information you need and then experience it as if it was live. Same goes for calls, if you just ”cache” all the things you want to say and responses to all questions which might appear in the conversation you could have a ”live” zoom call.

Granted, knowing what data to cache would be insanely difficult, for any regular conversation you would have to cache basically everything you know and have some nice AI wrapper to hold the conversation for you, then you would also need to have some sort of check after the call where you send back what was actually said/asked and make sure no information was missed.

Not a true live call, but if done right the user can’t tell the difference.

The only reason I would want to go to Mars is to attempt to set up internet networks (or more likely, a LAN that kind of eventually evolves into a WAN). Re-creating the internet on Mars would be legitemately nuts, and as a guy just barely starting to study how networks work, I find it awesome to think about

In one of his stories Vernor Vinge touched on a possible solution: AI-based predictive buffering. A pair of AIs at each end of the Earth to Mars channel are designed to learn the data request patterns and to get material to the other end before it is needed. We do something like this right now for many hierarchical storage solutions relying just on locality of reference. It should be possible to do a lot better once the common patterns of usage are understood. Combine that with really, really big buffers at each end and Mars would have near-instantaneous access to most Earth material it needs. (Zoom performance still would be rather annoying, though.)

Joe, I head a group of scientists found that by further entangling a particle that was already entangled, that its partner was affected, and that by measuring using semi-deterministic methods they were able to avoid collapsing the wave function. I've read that there were experiments that have managed to accelerate the speed of light for use in communications such as fiber optics and open space. According to the article which was published in 2019, they could make a pulse of light go 30x faster and that it has been done with fiber optic since 2006.

The sun doesn’t have enough mass to go supernova. It will become a red giant and constantly lose mass as it expands, eventually resulting in a planetary nebula.

Battletech had an interesting concept for this, in universe these transmitters were called Hyper Pulse Generator (or HPG) Katrina Steiner had a massive number of them constructed so that she could communicate with the Federated Commonwealth (The Largest "nation" in the Inner Sphere) with only milliseconds delay. Of course the signals are sent faster than light so again physics breaking as of our current understanding. The idea isn't unsound though it's a matter of finding a way for it to actually be possible and if it ever is the people who come after us will wonder why we "Didn't just do it that way in the first place, it's so simple."

Honestly i feel like a cultural rift between planets would be great in its own way
Each planets may eventually grow their own interests, their own tastes in fiction, my main issue with our current cultures that have a pretty easy communication is that interests and trends tend to be the same all across, and stuff tends to be oversaturated with similar things.

As you said, you put the gloves in 2 boxes (split the beam in a prism) and THEN carry your entangled particle out in space. As long as we don't know how to freeze lightspeed particles (remember heisenberg uncertainty), the particle on our side is long gone, absorbed by the wall beneath.

I'm a child of the 80's but I also knew about BBS's. A BBS was a very old form of a chat room, maybe also a forum. Mixed with the $ pre txt of the early cell phone era.
The idea of waiting hours, or even days in-between messages is not foreign to me.

Hi Joe! Quantum Information PhD here. The problem with entanglement not providing faster than light communication is not that we can't act on one of the two particles without breaking the entanglement. Actually, that's pretty easy, and is routinely done in experiments! The issue is much more fundamental: there is no way to "force" a locally measured particle to be found in (say) the "up" state. Entanglement only tells you that the two outcomes are correlated (e.g. they are opposite) but provides no way to choose which outcome you get...

Even if you can't force the polarity of an entangled particle, you should still be able to use them as bits with a set protocol.
If particles collapsed, collapses their entangled counterpart at the same time, it should be working.
If you take a binary number, let's say 101, and start collapsing waveforms at a set pace, you let the pace be the denotation of matching or not matching bits. If your first particle is a 1, you immediately go to the next one. If the next one is a 1 as well, instead of a 0, you pause for a set amount of time. This would denote a failed match, and we know it's supposed to be a 0. Rinse, repeat. Then you just need a termination particle that is collapsed at, let's say twice the failure paus.
In this way, you're using the pace to code the particles to the polarity you want instead of the actual polarity itself.

I still think it may be possible to send information with quantum entanglement. Forcing a state on a particle may not be necessary, the information can be sent by synchronized clocks. Send a certain pattern to the other particle. The readings on the other side will be non random. Make a pattern that can be read such as Morris code.

Honestly I would go. The very idea that my efforts whether it be maintenance worker, or a red shirt from the enterprise would be thrilling. Everything I do and work on matters as it does here but more so there. Also the fact I would get to go to space would be such an achievement that I would be overloaded with emotions. But I am not blind to the fact that from the very moment I got on to the rocket and lifted off my life would be in a consistent danger. Minor faults or mistakes on the colony or even the trip there could be the end; But also no one would even know that we died for a few hours or months if something failed to pressurize. But I see it as acceptable since we have to face the facts anything new or different is going to be met with failures and great successes. Joe, as for how a Mars colony might exist on a day to day basis, especially with not much direct communication between Mars and Earth, there's a very good sci-fi novel from 2009 called "The Empress of Mars", by now-deceased author Kage Baker. She postulates the British being the power behind starting the colony, using the East India Company as a model(!), but finds them losing interest as it's not very profitable. The novel is very entertaining; I recommend it; but she also has very interesting ideas of what the colony environment might be like. Check it out.

I worked with people all other the globe for the last few years, sometimes with no ability to communicate directly. Using emails to communicate is slower and somewhat taxing, yet with proper expectations and process organization, it is possible to work in such a manner and we as a species did it just fine short few decades ago. It requires to dial down the speed of life a bit, yet taking into account how stressed and anxious we are now, it might be for good.
It might not be possible to use exactly the same Internet on Mars, yet service localization is in use already. Once communication infrastructure is able to cache stuff locally on Mars the will be no reason not to use it interplanetary, like Netflix does.
Though I agree with this delay most certainly eventually will resulting in a rise of local power and movement for independence due to the same reasons the USA and other colonies' independents was established.

i think the best option for communication would be to put satellites outside the earths lagrange points. if you put several to orbit around the sun rather than the earth, something possibly closer to mars, then you could beam data from mars to these satellites that are in between and they can bounce it back to earth. with this all we would have to do is figure out how to increase the speed of data transfer. also, more satellites means more opportunities to transfer data from one to the other.

I had an idea with entanglement that two particles are entangled in a magnetic enduced field. Then once you separate the entangled particles if you affect the magnetic field it would be reflected in the other entangled particles magnetic field. So entanglement forms the connection but the magnetic field is the conductor.

Joe, Have you heard about quantum entanglement? I think in not so distant future there will be systems that will use quantum entanglement for distant communications. Latency will even be less than current fiber or wireless communications as quantum effects are instantaneous and faster than speed of light. So all in all not only we will be able to do ZOOM calls but marsh settlers can also surf the web and will be able to watch Live TV as well.

4mbps isn't too awful, well it is by today's standards for a home that consumes a lot of data. I streamed to twitch at 4mbps a few days ago. You can send fairly decent video at that rate, at full capacity, but I'm not sure how sustained that signal can be from the satellite. I presume if a colony exists on Mars, we'll likely send some upgraded satellites. Of course, none of this get's over the latency problem, which would be the absolute worst part of it. They should at least send solid-state storage full of TV shows and movies regularly to keep Martians entertained :)

Quantum entanglement does not allow super-luminal transmission of information since you'd have to effectively compare notes after reading the spin of your particle. As Joe said, we have no way of manipulating entangled particles, but it's worse than that. Even if you could, your particle would be in superposition again until you measured a second time, and therefore it would not be entangled with its former pair anymore. Its wave function will have evolved according to the Schrödinger equation preventing any ability to share information with the original pair.

Early internet on Mars will be an odd fusion between 1900s small town values and highly advanced technology. They will have earth Internet in some way but the stuff they'd actually use would be their own Martian internet. In the early days they will literally know everyone who uploads content. It will be very personal and intimate.
