Clueless Wonder

Why do you believe
Why do you believe
That we're closing in on you
Clueless wonder
You could not conceive
You could not conceive
The damage you could do
You're brighter than the sun
You're numb to all the pain
You're so unlike the ones
Who live their life on lover's lane
Clueless wonder
Who do you suppose
Who do you suppose
Might save you from yourself
Find another who will sweep you off your feet
Who could sweep you off your feet
And take you somewhere else
You're brighter than the sun
You're numb to all the pain
You're so unlike the ones
Who live their life on lover's lane
Who live their life on lover's lane
Clueless wonder
Who is on this earth
Who is on this earth
That knows you like I do
Could there be another
Who can fill your beating heart
Who can see into your soul
And who knows that it is true
You're brighter than the sun
You're numb to all the pain
You're so unlike the ones
Who live their life on lover's lane
Who live their life on lover's lane
Who live their life on lover's lane
The song "Clueless Wonder" by Joel Plaskett Emergency appears to address someone who is in a state of self-deception. The song opens with the repeated question, "why do you believe, that we're closing in on you?" The use of the term "clueless wonder" hints at someone who is largely unaware of their own surroundings and their potential to cause damage to those around them. The song suggests that this person is potentially dangerous due to their lack of self-awareness and their inability to recognize the harm they may cause.
The song also suggests that the "clueless wonder" is different from other people. They are "brighter than the sun" and "numb to all the pain." This seems to hint at a desire for meaningful human connection that is being blocked by the person's own self-deception. The lyrics ask, "who do you suppose might save you from yourself?" acknowledging the need for someone outside the "clueless wonder's" own perception to intervene and "sweep them off their feet."
The song seems to challenge the "clueless wonder" to face their own flaws and to strive for more meaningful relationships. It highlights the importance of self-awareness and the need for healthy human connection in preventing harm to oneself and others.
