On The Beach
John Holt The Paragons Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

Letโ€ฒs go and have some fun
On the beach
Where there's a party
Everyone will be there
On the beach
Where thereโ€ฒs a party
We're gonna have a ball
Dancing and singing and winding and all
Holding hands together and laughing and all
Then we'll dance, dance, dance, daaaance...
One more box of hops
Says the man to the bartender

One more box of hops
Says the man, I wonโ€ฒt surrender

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "On the Beach" by John Holt and The Paragons depict a joyful and lively scene on the beach where a party is taking place. The singer invites the listener to join them and have some fun in this festive atmosphere. The beach is portrayed as a gathering place where everyone will be in attendance, creating a sense of inclusivity and togetherness.

The lyrics suggest that the party on the beach will be filled with dancing, singing, and laughter. People will be holding hands and enjoying each other's company. The mention of winding may refer to a type of dance move or simply an expression of enjoyment. The repetitive use of the word "dance" emphasizes the spirit of celebration and the desire to be fully immersed in the moment.

The second part of the song introduces a conversation between a man and a bartender. The man asks for one more box of hops, which typically refers to beer. This indicates that the partygoers are further indulging in the festivities and have no intention of slowing down or surrendering to the night's end. The lyrics capture the carefree and vibrant atmosphere of a beach party, where people come together to have a good time and create lasting memories.

@blackspace007

It's hypnotic. I love older music anyway but never had heard of this. Was turned on by a show watch called the Outer Banks

I'm a little on the young side to have heard these when they came out, but was lucky enough to meet a guy from Holland who had most of these records (back in 1982), and immediately fell in love with rock-steady. I liked some reggae, but this was more in line with the 70's Philly soul I grew up on. Thanks for posting these gems!
