Legend also played the piano on Lauryn Hill's 1998 song "Everything is Everything" and sang background vocals on Jay-Z's "Encore" and Alicia Keys' "You Don't Know My Name". Legend frequently cites gospel, R&B, and hip hop music as his main musical influences.
Legend released his critically acclaimed and Billboard Top Ten second album, Once Again, in October 2006. Produced by Raphael Saadiq, Kanye West and will.i.am, it is again a mixture of gospel and classic soul showcasing his extraordinary voice, particularly on "Show Me".

Neo-soul singer and pianist John Legend combined the raw fervor of contemporaries Cody ChesnuTT and the burning precision of D'Angelo. Born John Stephens, Legend was a child prodigy who grew up in Ohio, where he began singing gospel and playing piano at the tender age of five. Legend left Ohio at 16 to attend college in Philadelphia, and it was there that he first found a larger audience. Not yet out of his teens, Legend was tapped to play piano on Lauryn Hill's "Everything Is Everything" in 1998. After completing college, he moved to New York, where he began to build a loyal following playing in nightclubs and releasing CDs that he would sell at shows. He also became an in-demand session musician, playing and occasionally writing for a wide array of artists, including Alicia Keys, Twista, Janet Jackson, and Kanye West. It wasn't until West signed the young talent to his new label that he adopted the Legend name with 2004's Solo Sessions Vol. 1: Live at the Knitting Factory. Get Lifted, his first studio album, was released later in the year. On the strength of enduring single "Ordinary People," the album reached the Top Five of the Billboard 200. This led to three Grammy Awards: Best R&B Album, Best R&B Male Vocal Performance, and Best New Artist. Once Again, which peaked at number three on the Billboard 200 and number one on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, followed in October 2006. Live from Philadelphia, sold exclusively at Target stores, was a successful stopgap release that predated October 2008's Evolver.

Yeah, yeah, yeah
Whoa
I'm not worried 'bout tomorrow
While we're still, while we're still
While we're still soakin' in today
Yeah
'Cause we will, 'cause we will
'Cause we will end up burning down this place
Yeah
Our love's worth waiting for
Just let it stew some more
Bring out each flavor and spice
Stir up what's mine and yours
Like I warned you before, yeah
I can't help that I'm a slow cooker
Slow cooker
Everybody's speedin'
But you and me, you and me
You and me move at our own pace
Oh, Lord
Ain't nothing like a simmer, ayy
Let it be, let it be
Let it breathe and then we'll sneak a taste
Goddamn, yeah
Our love's worth waiting for
Just let it stew some more
Bring out each flavor and spice
Stir up what's mine and yours
Spill it all on the floor, yeah
I can't help that I'm a slow cooker
I can't help that I'm a slow cooker
I can't help that I'm a slow cooker
(Forming gold can take a billion years) ooh
(So me and my baby, we just gon' slow cook up in here)
I can't help that I'm a slow cooker (yeah)
(Forming gold can take a billion years)
(So me and my baby, we just gon' slow cook up in here) yeah
Oh
Forming gold can take a billion years
So me and my baby, we just gon' slow cook up in here, yeah
Forming gold can take a billion years
So me and my baby, we just gon' slow cook up in here, ayy
Forming gold can take a billion years
So me and my baby, we just gon' slow cook, slow, slow, slow
We just gon' slow cook up in
Slow, slow
Slow, slow
Slow, slow
Forming gold can take a billion years
So me and my baby
Come on, baby, slow, slow
Slow (slow, slow)
Slow
The song "Slow Cooker" by John Legend is a love song that compares the process of love to that of cooking. The singer sings about how he's not worried about the future, and wants to just focus on the present moment with his lover. He says that their love is worth waiting for and that they should just let it stew some more, bringing out each flavor and spice. The metaphorical lyrics suggest that they should take their time in the relationship, as it is worth the wait.
The song's chorus repeats the phrase "I can't help that I'm a slow cooker," emphasizing the idea that the singer is in no rush and enjoys taking things slow. He acknowledges that everyone else is "speedin'," but he and his partner move at their own pace. The song concludes on a hopeful tone with the line, "forming gold can take a billion years, so me and my baby, we just gon' slow cook up in here."
Overall, the lyrics suggest that love is a process that takes time, and those who enjoy taking it slow will find that the results are worth waiting for. The slow cooker metaphor suggests that patience is essential when it comes to love and that good things come to those who let it simmer.

I feel like every time I come here, this song hits a different nerve in my body. This time, I am reminded that time apart does nothing to a heart that is in love with another. But, the realization that love alone is never enough brings me back to why you need to detach from people when love is no longer being served. Unbelievable, what a song can evoke from just a few minutes of words and instruments just ''dancing'' together. John, you have a gift.

This song takes you back to that one time you felt loved by someone. The vulnerability of that love you experienced for the first time. You can feel the sparks and the touch of their hands on your face and the first time they kissed you. Nothing else mattered in that moment than just being there together. John is such a legend indeed. โคโค
