Legend also played the piano on Lauryn Hill's 1998 song "Everything is Everything" and sang background vocals on Jay-Z's "Encore" and Alicia Keys' "You Don't Know My Name". Legend frequently cites gospel, R&B, and hip hop music as his main musical influences.
Legend released his critically acclaimed and Billboard Top Ten second album, Once Again, in October 2006. Produced by Raphael Saadiq, Kanye West and will.i.am, it is again a mixture of gospel and classic soul showcasing his extraordinary voice, particularly on "Show Me".

Neo-soul singer and pianist John Legend combined the raw fervor of contemporaries Cody ChesnuTT and the burning precision of D'Angelo. Born John Stephens, Legend was a child prodigy who grew up in Ohio, where he began singing gospel and playing piano at the tender age of five. Legend left Ohio at 16 to attend college in Philadelphia, and it was there that he first found a larger audience. Not yet out of his teens, Legend was tapped to play piano on Lauryn Hill's "Everything Is Everything" in 1998. After completing college, he moved to New York, where he began to build a loyal following playing in nightclubs and releasing CDs that he would sell at shows. He also became an in-demand session musician, playing and occasionally writing for a wide array of artists, including Alicia Keys, Twista, Janet Jackson, and Kanye West. It wasn't until West signed the young talent to his new label that he adopted the Legend name with 2004's Solo Sessions Vol. 1: Live at the Knitting Factory. Get Lifted, his first studio album, was released later in the year. On the strength of enduring single "Ordinary People," the album reached the Top Five of the Billboard 200. This led to three Grammy Awards: Best R&B Album, Best R&B Male Vocal Performance, and Best New Artist. Once Again, which peaked at number three on the Billboard 200 and number one on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, followed in October 2006. Live from Philadelphia, sold exclusively at Target stores, was a successful stopgap release that predated October 2008's Evolver.

Mmm-mmm
When I'm lost, when I'm low
How do you always know?
Oh, you're right there to save me
At the end of my road
When I'm floatin' in space
When the whole world is cavin'
Oh, you're my saving grace
You make me wonder, woman
How do you do it?
Some superpower
I don't understand
You make me wonder, woman
How do you do it?
You're superhuman
And I'm just a man
You're the best at my worst
More than what I deserve
Always right there beside me
Could've put yourself first
Give me hope, give me help
When I'm goin' through hell
Show me lovin' somebody
Starts with lovin' myself
You make me wonder, woman
How do you do it?
Some superpower
I don't understand
You make me wonder, woman
How do you do it?
You're superhuman
And I'm just a man, whoa
Na-na-na, na-na-na, na-na-na-na-na
Na-na-na-na-no, ooh, na-na-na
Ooh, ooh, ooh, yeah
You make me wonder, woman
How do you do it?
Some superpower
I don't understand
You're superhuman
And I'm just a man
In the song "Wonder Woman," John Legend expresses his admiration and gratitude for the woman in his life who consistently supports and uplifts him. The opening lines convey a sense of vulnerability and confusion as he describes feeling lost and low. Despite this, he marvels at how she always knows how to save him and be there for him when he reaches the end of his rope. It's as if she possesses an innate ability to sense his needs and provide the necessary support.
The second verse delves deeper into the partnership they share. Legend acknowledges that she is always there for him, even during his worst moments. He recognizes that she goes above and beyond what he feels he deserves and never prioritizes herself over him. She gives him hope and assistance when he is going through difficult times, proving that loving someone else starts with loving oneself. He attributes her unwavering support as the reason he is able to navigate the challenges he faces.
The chorus further emphasizes Legend's awe and admiration for this woman. He wonders how she manages to possess such strength and power, comparing her to a superhero with superhuman abilities. He confesses his inability to fully grasp or understand how she does it, highlighting the profound impact she has on him. As he admits his own limitations as a man, there is a sense of humility and appreciation for the extraordinary qualities she possesses.
The song concludes with a repeated refrain of admiration and wonder. Legend acknowledges that he cannot comprehend the extent of her power or the depth of her love. He recognizes that she is truly exceptional and acknowledges the stark contrast between his own human limitations and her remarkable qualities. This final affirmation serves as a reminder of the incredible impact a supportive partner can have in one's life, and the gratitude that can arise from recognizing such love and strength.

LETRA - Wonder Woman ( Mulher Maravilha )
Quando estou perdido, quando estou para baixo
Como você sempre sabe?
Oh, você está aí para me salvar
No final da minha estrada
Quando estou flutuando no espaço
Como você se mantém no lugar?
Quando a palavra inteira desmoronou
Oh, você é minha graça salvadora
Você faz eu me perguntar, mulher
Como você faz isso?
Alguma superpotência
Eu não entendo
Você faz eu me perguntar, mulher
Como você faz isso?
Você é uma super humana
E eu sou apenas um homem
Você é o melhor no meu pior
Mais do que eu mereço
Sempre ali ao meu lado
Poderia ter se colocado em primeiro lugar
Me dá esperança, me dá ajuda
Quando estou passando por um inferno
Me mostrou que amar alguém
Começa com me amar
Você faz eu me perguntar, mulher
Como você faz isso?
Alguma superpotência
Eu não entendo
Você faz eu me perguntar, mulher
Como você faz isso?
Você é uma super humana
E eu sou apenas um homem
Woah, nah-nah-nah, nah-nah-nah
Nah-nah-nah, nah-nah
Nah-nah-nah, nah-nah, ooh
Nah-nah, nah
Woo-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh
Woo-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh, ooh
Sim
Você faz eu me perguntar, mulher
Como você faz isso?
Alguma superpotência
Eu não entendo
Você é uma super humana
E eu sou apenas um homem
