Several of their later albums were released under the name The Plastic Ono Band, and often featured other musicians such as Eric Clapton, Klaus Voorman, and Alan White. The Plastic Ono Band's first album, Live Peace in Toronto 1969, was recorded during the Toronto Rock and Roll Revival Festival. The first half of their performance consisted of rock standards, and during the second half, Ono took the microphone and along with the band performed what may be one of the first expressions of the avant garde during a rock concert. The set ended with music that consisted mainly of feedback, while Ono screamed and sang.
Their fifth album together, Some Time in New York City, released in 1972, is fiercely motivated by political issues the couple found themselves confronted with upon moving to New York City in September, 1971. The album was highly controversial but is generally seen as the beginning of Ono's emergence as a songwriter with "Sisters O Sisters", "Born In A Prison", and "We're All Water"
With the birth of their son Sean in 1975, Lennon put his career on hold to raise the boy and rekindle his relationship with his older son Julian. In the summer of 1980, both Lennon and Ono felt ready to resume to work and began composing. They made the decision to release their impending songs together on the same album. Subtitled "A Heart Play", Double Fantasy would be a collection of songs whereby John and Yoko would be singing to each other.
Released in 1984, Milk and Honey is notable for being Lennon's first posthumous release of music, having been recorded in the last months of his life during and following the sessions for Double Fantasy. Though Lennon's death caused a temporary shelving of the project, Ono was later capable of returning to complete it.

We-e-e-e-ell, ven after all these years
I miss you when you're not here
I wish you were here, my dear, Yoko
Even if it's just a day
I miss you when you're away
Even if it's just one night
I miss you and it don't feel right
I wish you were here tonight, dear Yoko
Even if it's just an hour
I wilt just like a fading flower
Nothing in the world like our love, dear Yoko
Oh, Yoko!
I'll never-ever-ever-ever gonna let you go
Oh, Yoko!
I'll never-ever-ever-ever gonna let you go
Oh!
Even when I'm miles at sea
And nowhere is the place to be
Your spirit's watching over me, dear Yoko
Even when I watch T.V.
Hole where you're supposed to be
There's nobody lying next to me, dear Yoko
Oh, Yoko!
I'll never-ever-ever-ever gonna let you go
Oh, Yoko!
I'll never-ever-ever-ever gonna let you go
Even after all this time
I miss you like the sun don't shine
Without you I'm a one-track mind, dear Yoko
Look out, after all is really said and done
The two of us are really one
The gods have really smiled upon our love, dear Yoko
Oh, oh, oh, oh!
The song "Dear Yoko" by John Lennon and Yoko Ono is a love song about the longing he feels when she is not around. The song revolves around John's love for Yoko and how her absence makes him feel incomplete. He narrates how he misses her even when she's gone for a day, a night, or an hour. He says that their love is so strong that nothing in the world compares to it. He often breaks into the chorus singing "Oh, Yoko! I'll never-ever-ever-ever gonna let you go."
The lyrics suggest that Yoko's spirit is always watching over him, even when they are miles apart. Even when he's watching TV, he feels her absence. He misses having her by his side every day as she completes him. He says that after all that they have been through, they are still together, and they are really one. The song ends with John expressing his love for Yoko, singing "Oh, oh, oh, oh!" with a lot of passion.
