Besides these two songs, five more of Montgomery's singles have reached the top of the country charts: "I Love the Way You Love Me", "Be My Baby Tonight", "If You've Got Love", "I Can Love You Like That", and "The Little Girl", while thirteen more have reached Top Ten. Montgomery's recordings of "I Swear" and "I Can Love You Like That" were both released concurrently with R&B versions by the group All-4-One. Montgomery has also released eleven studio albums, counting a Christmas album.
John Michael joined the family band (which also included his brother, Eddie Montgomery, who would later join Troy Gentry in the duo Montgomery Gentry) as guitarist before taking the lead singing role when his parents divorced. Afterwards, he made a frugal living on the local honky-tonk scene as a solo artist playing what he referred to as "working man's country." Eventually, Atlantic Records signed him.

To talk in riddles 'round the end
It took me a lot more livin'
To understand what he meant, when he said
I was born at daylight walkin' tall by seven
Graduated ten a.m. got saved by eleven
I took her hand it was straight up noon
They all grew and left in the afternoon
Time flies these eyes
Have seen the glory of the morning
Turn into a silent night
I've lived a million moments in the time
It takes the sun to fade
And it feels like it all happened in a day
His eyes glistened as he talked
About his autumn afternoon
How they held each other in the chill of a silver moon
He got all chocked up when midnight fell
She squeezed his hand the clock struck twelve
She let go and he was all by himself
Time flies these eyes
Have seen the glory of the morning
Turn into a silent night
I've lived a million moments in the time
It takes the sun to fade
And it feels like it all happened in a day
But oh, what a great day it was
We lived, we loved
And it all just sped up around the end
Time flies these eyes
Have seen the glory of the morning
Turn into a silent night
I've lived a million moments in the time
It takes the sun to fade
And it feels like it all happened in a day
Time lies
And I feel like I lived my life in a day
In a day
In the song "All In A Day" by John Michael Montgomery, the singer talks about an old man who spoke in riddles and it wasn't until later in life that he fully understood what the old man meant. The old man talks about how life passes by quickly and how he feels like he lived a million moments in the time it takes for the sun to set. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of how fast life passes by and how we must cherish every moment of it.
The first verse of the song talks about the old man being born and how he achieved many milestones in life before having three kids and watching them grow up and leave home all in one day. The chorus of the song talks about how time flies, and the singer has seen the glory of the morning turn into a silent night. He has lived a million moments in the time it takes for the sun to fade, and he feels like it all happened in a day. The second verse of the song talks about the old man's love for his wife and how they spent an autumn afternoon holding each other in the chill of a silver moon. The song ends with the old man feeling like he lived his whole life in just one day.
The lyrics in "All In A Day" are a reminder of how precious life is and how we should make the most of every moment. The song teaches us that life passes by quickly and often feels like it all happened in a day. We should cherish every moment with our loved ones and make the most of the time we have on this Earth.

But as midnight approached, he became emotional
She squeezed his hand the clock struck twelve
Someone special was there for him in his final moments
She let go and he was all by himself
But when they left, he was left alone once again
But oh, what a great day it was
In spite of it all, it was a wonderful day
We lived, we loved
A day filled with love and memorable moments
And it all just sped up around the end
But as the day ended, time seemed to move even faster
Time lies
Time can be deceiving
And I feel like I lived my life in a day
Sometimes it feels like my entire life has flown by in just one day
