Besides these two songs, five more of Montgomery's singles have reached the top of the country charts: "I Love the Way You Love Me", "Be My Baby Tonight", "If You've Got Love", "I Can Love You Like That", and "The Little Girl", while thirteen more have reached Top Ten. Montgomery's recordings of "I Swear" and "I Can Love You Like That" were both released concurrently with R&B versions by the group All-4-One. Montgomery has also released eleven studio albums, counting a Christmas album.
John Michael joined the family band (which also included his brother, Eddie Montgomery, who would later join Troy Gentry in the duo Montgomery Gentry) as guitarist before taking the lead singing role when his parents divorced. Afterwards, he made a frugal living on the local honky-tonk scene as a solo artist playing what he referred to as "working man's country." Eventually, Atlantic Records signed him.

that worn out line
About love at first sight
Well, I never knew
those words were true
'Til you walked in tonight
All it took was just one look
To knock me off of my feet
So I'll make this short and sweet
Could you
Would you
Ain't you gonna
If I ask you you,
would you want to
Be my baby tonight
Yeah, take a chance,
slow dance
Make a little romance
Honey, it'll be alright
Girl, you got me wishin'
We were huggin' and kissin'
And holdin' each other tight
So, could you
Would you
Ain't you gonna
If I ask you,
would you want to
Be my baby tonight
I'm not trying to come on
like some rhinestone Romeo
I'm lookin' for a whole lot more
Than a one night rodeo
What can I do
To prove to you
I'm layin' it on the line
I'll even get down on my knees
Just to beg you one more time
Yeah, could you
Would you
Ain't you gonna
If I ask you, would you want to
Be my baby tonight
The song "Be My Baby Tonight" by John Michael Montgomery is a classic country love song that talks about love at first sight. The song narrates how the singer has fallen in love with a woman on the very first sight of her. The song begins by mentioning the cliche line of love at first sight that the singer never believed to be true. But when he saw the woman, he knew those words were true.
The lyrics express the singer's desire to be with the woman and convince her to be his partner. He is not a man of many words and thus directly asks if she would want to be his baby tonight. He talks about slow dancing and making a little romance that would be alright. He expresses his wish to hold the woman tight and be with her.
The lyrics also show the singer's sincerity towards love, as he mentions that he is not a "rhinestone Romeo," just looking for a one-night stand. He promises to lay it all on the line and even go down on his knees to prove that he is genuine. Overall, the song is a soft and heartfelt plea for love, and all the lyrics are a testament to the singer's earnest emotions.

I am aware that you've been told
that worn out line
about the cliche and hackneyed phrase
About love at first sight
Concerning the idea of falling in love instantaneously
Well, I never knew
Until you came into my life,
those words were true
I never believed those catchphrases
'Til you walked in tonight
But your arrival tonight has changed everything
All it took was just one look
One glance from you was enough
To knock me off of my feet
To leave me speechless and overwhelmed
I'm not a man of many words
I won't beat around the bush,
So I'll make this short and sweet
I'll keep this brief and to the point
Could you
I need to know
Would you
Are you willing to
Ain't you gonna
Why don't you
If I ask you you,
In case I proposed you,
would you want to
Would you consider
Be my baby tonight
joining me tonight to be my partner
Yeah, take a chance,
Allow me to show you
slow dance
how to slow dance romantically
Make a little romance
let us build a romantic connection
Honey, it'll be alright
Don't be afraid, I'll take care of you
Girl, you got me wishin'
You have me looking forward
We were huggin' and kissin'
to us holding and kissing each other
And holdin' each other tight
and embracing tightly
So, could you
Will you let me know
Would you
Are you willing to
Ain't you gonna
Why don't you,
If I ask you,
In case I request you,
would you want to
Would you consider
Be my baby tonight
Joining me tonight to be my partner
I'm not trying to come on
I don't want to appear
like some rhinestone Romeo
overly flashy or theatrical
I'm lookin' for a whole lot more
I want something bigger
Than a one night rodeo
Than just a one-night affair
What can I do
What do I need to do
To prove to you
To convince you
I'm layin' it on the line
I'm being honest
I'll even get down on my knees
I'm even willing to kneel
Just to beg you one more time
To plead with you once again
Yeah, could you
I need to know
Would you
Are you willing to
Ain't you gonna
Why don't you,
If I ask you, would you want to
In case I propose you, would you consider
Be my baby tonight
Joining me tonight to be my partner
