Besides these two songs, five more of Montgomery's singles have reached the top of the country charts: "I Love the Way You Love Me", "Be My Baby Tonight", "If You've Got Love", "I Can Love You Like That", and "The Little Girl", while thirteen more have reached Top Ten. Montgomery's recordings of "I Swear" and "I Can Love You Like That" were both released concurrently with R&B versions by the group All-4-One. Montgomery has also released eleven studio albums, counting a Christmas album.
John Michael joined the family band (which also included his brother, Eddie Montgomery, who would later join Troy Gentry in the duo Montgomery Gentry) as guitarist before taking the lead singing role when his parents divorced. Afterwards, he made a frugal living on the local honky-tonk scene as a solo artist playing what he referred to as "working man's country." Eventually, Atlantic Records signed him.

In the lane, snow is glistenin'
It's a beautiful sight, we're happy tonight
Walkin' in a winter wonderland
Gone away is the bluebird
Here to stay is a new bird
He sings a love song as we go along
In the meadow we can build a snowman
Then pretend that he is Parson Brown
He'll say, "Are you married?", we'll say, "No man
But you can do the job while you're in town"
Later on, we'll conspire
As we dream by the fire
To face unafraid the plans that we made
Walkin' in a winter wonderland
In the meadow we can build a snowman
Then pretend that he's a circus clown
We'll have lots of fun with Mister Snowman
Until the older kiddies knock him down
When it snows, ain't it thrillin'?
Though your nose gets a chillin'
We'll frolic and play, the Eskimo way
Walkin' in a winter wonderland
We'll frolic and play, the Eskimo way
Walkin'
(Walkin')
In a winter
(In a winter)
Wonderland
In John Michael Montgomery's version of the classic Christmas song "Winter Wonderland", the lyrics describe the joy and wonder of walking in a winter wonderland with a loved one. He starts off the song by asking if the listener can hear the sleigh bells ringing and mentions the beautiful sight of the snow glistening in the lane. He goes on to note how happy they are walking in this winter wonderland. The second verse talks about the bluebird being gone and being replaced by a new bird singing a love song while they walk along. They then reach a meadow where they can build a snowman and pretend he's Parson Brown, asking if they are married. The third verse talks about dreaming by the fire together and facing the plans they've made unafraid because they're together. As the song concludes, Montgomery brings it back to building the snowman with Mister Snowman and frolicking and playing the Eskimo way.
The overall theme of this song is that of togetherness, happiness, and dreaming of a life together in a winter wonderland. It's a romantic notion that captures the magic of winter and the joy of being with someone you love. The snowman building in the meadow is a fun activity that they can enjoy together, and the dreamy melody and lyrics make it seem almost like a fairy tale.
