Your'e The Ticket
John Michael Montgomery Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I want to be the one sittin' next to you
On your mama's front porch swing
Feel like the guy that gets the girl
On a forty-foot silver screen
I want to steal a kiss when we stop
At the top of a great big Ferris wheel
I want to know how good that feels
I want to be a red Corvette
Rolling down a two-lane road
With the top rolled back and no speed limit
I want to be a midnight plane
Headin' down to Key Biscayne
Livin' life and lovin' every minute
And you're the ticket

I want to be the kid in the candy store
With a new twenty dollar bill
Want to walk in the sand holdin' your hand
With nothin' but time to kill
Roll the dice when I need a seven
And know that I can't lose
Girl you make every dream come true

I want to be a red Corvette
Rolling down a two-lane road
With the top rolled back and no speed limit
I want to be a midnight plane
Headin' down to Key Biscayne
Livin' life and lovin' every minute
And you're the ticket

I want to be a red Corvette
Rolling down a two-lane road
With the top rolled back and no speed limit
I want to be a midnight plane
Headin' down to Key Biscayne
Livin' life and lovin' every minute
I said a red Corvette
Rolling down a two-lane road
With the top rolled back and no speed limit
I want to be a midnight plane
Headin' down to Key Biscayne

Livin' life and lovin' every minute
And you're the ticket

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of John Michael Montgomery's "You're the Ticket" express the singer's longing for thrilling experiences with the person he loves. He wants to be the guy who gets the girl in a romantic movie, stealing kisses at the top of a Ferris wheel or rolling down a two-lane road in a red Corvette with no speed limit. He wants to feel the rush of living every moment and taking chances without fear of losing, because being with this person is like having a ticket to a life of happiness and adventure.

Throughout the song, the singer repeats the desire to live life to the fullest and make every dream come true, and he attributes this joy to the person he is singing to. By describing images that embody freedom and happiness, such as a midnight plane headed to Key Biscayne or being the kid in the candy store with a new twenty dollar bill, the song emphasizes the importance of living in the moment and seizing opportunities, with the idea that love makes it all possible.

In summary, "You're the Ticket" is a song that celebrates the exhilaration of being in love and the freedom of taking risks and living life to the fullest. It portrays the person the singer is addressing as the key to all these experiences, the "ticket" to a world of adventure and happiness.

My whole life, I've dressed up on Halloween as an "army guy". Ever since I could walk, there has been nothing I've wanted to do more than serve my country, and this year, I've played well enough on the lacrosse field and in tournaments to have been fortunate enough to talk with the Naval Academy scout, and I apply if given the chance, and live out the only dream I've never questioned once. If I'm fortunate enough, I will serve in the United States Marine Corps, to honor my relatives who fought, were killed, and wounded in the Pacific Theater of the Second World War, as well as I feel it's my duty to serve the country in which so many have fought and were killed for its safety.

To all the veterans here, thank you for your service, you have done every living soul that resides in the borders of this great country a great service, there is no greater service than to one's country. You are all truly my heroes, and have been since I could walk and speak. I hope I can do you proud, just as you have done me.

To the families of veterans and those who have been killed or wounded in the service, thank you as well, you are the backbone of society, just as the NCO's are the backbone every branch. You are the strongest type of person there is.

To all else, even though we have our many differences and beliefs and would gladly debate them and butt heads every so often, there is no denying that we might not have had the possibility to enjoy these simple things, these freedoms, like choosing who you believe in and having your own thoughts and loyalties, had it not been for the heroes who spent months and years in excruciating, gut-wrenching, and brutal conditions, sacrificing limbs and life, all in the defense of the idea that "all men are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness".

I can't hear the song. I can feel it. And these feelings are both a blessing and a curse. I am part of a big family. I am a veteran and have had to let go brothers and sisters who gave everything and are never forgotten and certainly must not be forgotten.
