King Of The Earth
John Ondrasik Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm as crazy as clown tonight
A clown without a crown tonight
A simple sack of wishes and bones
I'm as useless as a memory
The day before it came to me
To save your time stitches and stones

But once in my life I was the king of the earth
Once in my life, I was

I've flown horses on the skies above
That ain't enough for you my love
To fill these empty castles with ghosts
I've married devils to their history
Sood where you would bury me
Through a time of statues and rows

But once in my life I was the king of the Earth
Once in my life I was

Now that the stars have frozen in their places
All that I've hold seems gone
Now that the stars have fallen from their faces
I will see you on

I'll never be your picture present
But I hope you go the rose I sent
To save your town of stitches and bones
I'm nothing more than a simple man
Born to be American
Out to draw these bridges and motes

But once in my life I was the king of the Earth
Once in my life

Overall Meaning

In John Ondrasik's song King of the Earth, the singer speaks about their current state of being as a clown without a crown; useless as a memory that hasn't yet formed. They acknowledge their inability to fulfill their lover's desires and needs, despite having flown horses and married devils. However, they hold on to a single moment in the past where they were once "king of the Earth". The lyrics paint a picture of someone who is currently struggling to find their place in the world and comes to terms with the fact that their previous accomplishments may not carry the same weight in their current reality. The song also touches upon loss and the idea that even once solid and sturdy things can easily crumble and disappear.

The chorus is repeated throughout the song and serves as a reminder of the past when the singer felt powerful and in control. However, with the passing of time, things have changed and the singer is left feeling small and insignificant. The last two stanzas illustrate that the singer is still seeking validation and acceptance from their lover, despite knowing they may never live up to their expectations. They hope that perhaps a simple gesture of sending roses can bridge any gaps and convey their unwavering love.

Love this movie and the movie themes too. It's a story of family separated by fate. Their love of music which they all shared and the love for each other finds the way to reunite them again at the end.
