Kee says that it was during a trip to Michigan with his choir that he received a calling from God to be a preacher. Kee was in his mid-twenties when he was ordained as a minister. In 1995, while ministering in Ohio, he received a prophetic vision and went forward with the building of a Fellowship Center in Charlotte which could minister to the people in the community. He officially founded the New Life Fellowship Center where he became and remains the senior pastor. Ironically, the church is located in the same area where he had once led a life of crime and drugs. It is rumored that Pastor Kee does not accept a salary from the church, but is merely satisfied in knowing that the preached word of God has been brought forth.
In the mid 1980's, Kee formed a community choir in Charlotte known as the New Life Community Choir or "NLCC." Over time the choir grew in popularity and has continued to travel throughout the area. The choir also includes some of Kee's own children.
In 1990, Kee founded the Victory in Praise Music and Arts Seminar Mass Choir, or "V.I.P." in order to fellowship with various ministries, song writers, musicians and choir directors from all over the country.
Kee has been active for more than 15 years in the music field. He is primarily known for mixing traditional gospel with modern contemporary gospel and for having a soulful husky voice. His current cd entitled "The Reunion," released on December 5, 2005, features some of the old members of New Life Community Choir.
In 2007 Kee was inducted into the Christian Music Hall of Fame. [1] He also has an album, Nothing But Worship, which features the smash hit Right Now Praise.
Let Me Breathe

I've even thought of giving up knowing I would fail the test
That's when You breathe on me, You breathe on me
Letting me know I am a conqueror, I'm not afraid of what I see
So glad You breathe on me, You breathe on me
A savor oh so sweet, You breathe on me
In the turbulence of the violent storm, that's where I found my feet
That's when You breathe on me, You breathe on me
Letting me know when clouds and billows rise, I have the victory
So glad You breathe on me, You breathe on me
A savor oh so sweet, You breathe on me
There's no way my life could prosper without You
You're the source of total joy, I'm living proof
You're the breath of air that's needed
When I feel deprived
In my lowest low, nowhere to go
Tear stains have come and dried, dried, dried
That's when You breathe on me, You breathe on me
Letting me know I am a conqueror, I'm not afraid of what I see
You breathe on me, You breathe on me
A savor oh so sweet, You breathe on me
Lord I need Your presence
Lord, please breathe on me
Like a mighty rushing wind
Let me feel Your breeze
The lyrics of John P. Kee & The New Life Community Choir's song Breathe on Me express a deep sense of vulnerability and a need for divine intervention in the face of life's challenges. The singer of the song feels alone in their fears and unable to find rest. They have even contemplated giving up, knowing that they would fail the test. However, in the midst of this struggle, they experience the transformative power of God's breath, which both comforts and empowers them. They are reminded that with God on their side, they are conquerors and need not be afraid of what they see. The song emphasizes the central importance of God's presence in the singer's life and the profound effect that it has on their ability to cope with adversity.
The lyrics of Breathe on Me are deeply personal and expressive, reflecting the struggles and triumphs of the human experience. The song, however, also has a broader significance as a hymn of praise and worship. It speaks to the universal longing for divine guidance and assurance that is common to many different religious traditions. As a testament to this, Breathe on Me has become a popular spiritual anthem that has been covered by many different artists and choirs around the world.
