Tell Me More
John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

My minds been raining and even my dreams are soaked
I’m lost in these waves my feelings I can’t evoke
When I started to lose you, I felt I was losing me
It floods when I think of you, drowning when I breathe
I’m trying to forget you, my thoughts neglect you
I’ve been through too much
So tell me why
I’m addicted to your loving
Tell me why
I’m addicted to your touch
Tell me why
I’m addicted to your loving
Tell me why
I’m addicted to your touch
Every time we love its the same thing
Everybody runs from the same things
Sometimes you got to let go
It feels like I’m getting closer
Breaking but she’ll never know
Just waiting for it to be over
I'm tryna forget you, my thoughts neglect you
I’ve been through too much
So tell me why
I’m addicted to your loving
Tell me why
I’m addicted to your touch
Tell me why
I’m addicted to your loving
Tell me why
I’m addicted to your touch
The taste of your lips is written in my memory
Each passing moment I feel you next to me
How could I leave, our love is stuck in memories
They say that lovers turn to enemies
So tell me why
I’m addicted to your loving
Tell me why
I’m addicted to your touch
Tell me why
I’m addicted to your loving
Tell me why
I’m addicted to your touch
So tell me why
I’m addicted to your loving
Tell me why
I’m addicted to your touch
Tell me why
I’m addicted to your loving

Tell me why
I’m addicted to your touch

Overall Meaning

In the song "Tell Me More" by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, the lyrics speak about addiction and a longing for a lost love. The singer is struggling to move on from a past relationship, which has intoxicated their thoughts and feelings. They find themselves sinking in waves of emotions and memories, unable to forget their former lover. Despite the pain and uncertainty, the singer is still addicted to the touch and love of this person. The lyrics convey a sense of desperation, as they try to let go and move on from a past love that still has a hold on them.

The lyrics also suggest a sense of regret, that the relationship has ended and left them feeling lost without their former partner. The memories of the relationship are still vivid in their mind, and the taste of their ex-lover's lips stays with them. The singer feels that their love is stuck in memories, and the idea that lovers can turn into enemies reinforces how difficult it is to let go completely. The repetition of the chorus "Tell me why, I'm addicted to your loving, tell me why, I'm addicted to your touch" emphasizes the sense of helplessness that comes with addiction.

Overall, the lyrics of the song "Tell Me More" capture the pain and struggle of moving on from a past love, and the power that memories and addiction can have over one's thoughts and feelings.

Summer loving had me a blast
Summer loving happened so fast
I met a girl crazy for me
Met a boy cute as can be
Summer days drifting away
To-ah! Oh, the summer nights
Well-a, Well-a, Well-a, huh
Tell me more, tell me more
Did you get very far?
Tell me more, tell me more
Like does he have a car?
Uh huh (doo doo)
Uh huh (doo doo)
Uh huh (doo doo doo doo doo)
She swam by me, she got a cramp
He ran by me, got my suit damp
I saved her life, she nearly drowned
He showed off, splashing around
Summer sun, something’s begun
But ah! Oh, the summer nights
Well-a, well-a, well-a, huh
Tell me more tell me more
Was it love at first sight?
Tell me more, tell me more
Did she put up a fight?
Dow, doobie do, doobie do
Doobie, doobie, doobie
Dow, doobie do, doobie do
Doobie, doobie, doobie, dow
Took her bowling in the arcade
We went strolling, drank lemonade
We made out under the dock
We stayed up ‘til ten o’clock
Summer fling, don’t mean a thing
But ah! Oh the summer nights
Whoa, whoa, whoa
Tell me more, tell me more
But you don’t gotta brag
Tell me more, tell me more
‘Cause he sounds like a drag
Shoo bop bop, shoo bop bop
Shoo bop bop, shoo bop bop,
Shoo bop bop, shoo bop bop
Shoo bop bop, yeah!
He got friendly, holding my hand
Well, she got friendly down in the sand
He was sweet, just turned eighteen
Well, she was good, you know what I mean
Summer heat, boy and girl meet
But ah! Oh the summer nights
Whoa, whoa, whoa
Tell me more, tell me more
How much dough did he spend?
Tell me more, tell me more
Could she get me a friend?
It turned colder, that’s where it ends
So I told her we’d still be friends
Then we made our true love vow
Wonder what she’s doing now
Summer dreams ripped at the seams
But, oh
Those summer
Nights!
(Tell me more, tell me more, more, more)

I was there. 15 years old and she had me at hello. Catholic school boy meets Olivia Newton John via Grease. Did not know a woman could be made to be so beautiful. All the girls in high school or at least the ones that could pull it off without feeling like an outcast dressed like her in those black pants and that blonde hair. And I went to a Catholic high school with nuns and priests. Hey it was 1978 and they had just started allowing the girls to wear pants the year before. The one that did it flawlessly was M. Fuerst. She was a doppleganger for sure. Academically inclined, very pretty, with just the right hint of slut to her without making it too raunchy because you knew she was not putting out but she knew how to advertise without showing any flesh and still had a Catholic school pureness about her. She was our Olivia and she was nice too. R.I.H. You changed a generation.

My heart hurts so much tonight. This movie has always been there, in the background of my life. This world will never be the same without Olivia. ❤️💔
