Lost

If I'm forgotten, I could remind you
Are you lost, I feel lost, are we lost
Promise I will not tire or bore you
It's from a distance I adore you
See yourself in a little girl's dream
Weekends too much for Daddy it seems
Birthdays and holidays trickle on through
Not that it matters
'Cause she'll always love you
Are you lost, are we lost, I feel lost
You're like Santa Claus or the easter bunny
You fight with Mom and blame the money
Are you lost, I feel lost, are we lost
Are you lost, I feel lost, you're so lost
John Wesley's song, Lost, is a poignant and emotional song about feeling lost in life and seeking comfort from someone else. The opening lines, "I've come a long long way to find you / If I'm forgotten, I could remind you," suggest that the singer has been on a journey to find someone who is important to them. They are seeking reassurance that they are still remembered and valued by this person, as if they need to confirm their place in the world through their relationship with them.
The repetition of the question, "Are you lost, I feel lost, are we lost," emphasizes the theme of being lost or uncertain. The singer is looking to the other person for guidance or companionship, as they search for a sense of belonging. They promise that they will not tire or bore the other person, and that they love them from a distance regardless of whether they are physically together or not.
The next stanza shifts to a different perspective, as the singer describes a little girl's dream. This dream seems to represent an idealized version of what family and love should look like, with weekends spent together and birthdays and holidays celebrated. Even if the reality is different, the girl still loves her father, who is likened to Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny. The line "You fight with Mom and blame the money" suggests that there are struggles within the family, but the little girl's love is unwavering.
The final repetition of "Are you lost, I feel lost, you're so lost" brings the focus back to the present moment, where both the singer and the other person are lost and seeking connection. The song captures a sense of yearning and vulnerability that is universal, as we all search for meaning and connection in our lives.
