Born in Houston, Texas, Nash began as a pop singer in the 1950s. He became famous for singing the theme song for The Mighty Hercules cartoon in the early 1960s (which song he also wrote). His biggest hits were the early reggae tunes Hold Me Tight, I Can See Clearly Now, and Stir It Up, written by Bob Marley prior to Marley's international success.
Nash was last active as a composer in the Swedish romance Vill sΓ₯ gΓ€rna tro (1971) in which he portrayed Robert. For many years he seemed to have dropped out of sight; however, in May 2006 he was singing again at SugarHill Recording Studio in his native Houston.

Rock me, rock me, rock me, baby
Rock me out here on the floor
Rock me, rock me, rock me, baby
Rock me till I want no more
Oh that sweet, sweet reggea music playin'
The smell of perfume fills the air
come hold me tight
Ooh let's dance, romance
While we still have the chance
Come on, come on
Rock me, rock me, rock me, baby
Rock me out here on the floor
Rock me, rock me, rock me, baby
Rock me till I want no more
There is a feeling of love deep inside me
This heart of mine is pounding in my brain
I feel the fire, I feel desire
Ooh let's dance, romance
While we still have the chance
Come on, come on
Rock me, rock me, rock me, baby
Rock me out here on the floor
Rock me, rock me, rock me, baby
Rock me till I want no more
Rock me, rock me, rock me, baby
Rock me out here on the floor
Come on, come on
Rock me, rock me, rock me, baby
Rock me till I want no more
And when the night is through
I still be here with you
And the music will go on and on
Come on,
Rock me, rock me, rock me, baby
Rock me out here on the floor
Come on, come on
Rock me, rock me, rock me, baby
Girl, rock me till I want no more

In Johnny Nash's song "Rock Me Baby," the singer sets the tone for a romantic evening. The sweet reggae music playing and the smell of perfume fill the air, and the singer invites their partner to hold them tight and dance with them. They recognize the fleeting nature of life and love and want to make the most of the moment they have. As the night goes on, the singer's love for their partner grows deeper, and they feel a fiery desire to be close to them. The song ends with the idea that the night will continue on and on, with the music and the love lasting forever.
Throughout the song, the repetition of "rock me" serves to both reinforce the idea of dancing with a partner and to emphasize a desire for physical touch and closeness. The chorus, in particular, calls for the partner to "rock [them] till [they] want no more," suggesting an insatiable desire for connection. The emphasis on the temporal nature of the moment, coupled with a desire for eternal love and connection, creates a powerful emotional pull that speaks to the human experience of seeking love and companionship.
