He was the first charting Latin American country music singer, infusing his music with latin sounds, and even singing verses of songs in Spanish. He got his break after being discovered by Bobby Bare and parlayed that into a gig playing in Tom T. Hall's backing band. By the early 1970s he had moved on from being Hall's "secretary" of the road, scribbling down Hall's ideas, into his own chart success as one of country music's most successful male artists of the 70's and 80's.

A great country tune from Johnny that was all over the radio airwaves back during the summer of 1974, when it peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart, becoming his 6th consecutive Top 10 single in about a year and a half's time!
