WHY AM I STILL IN LA
Joji Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Ziploc right now (right now)
Will you let me win a fair fight?
Can't think right now
I can't lie, on my mind
I feel right, I feel right
I can't lie, on my mind
I feel right
I don't wanna live forever now, L.A.
I don't wanna live like that no more, L.A.
Only when we sleep
Promise that you'll keep
When you will never weep
Until you fail to breathe
Sleep tight, you were right all my life
Falling for your red eyes (red eyes)
Both dying right now (right now, right now)
Got me back on my old life
You're not my gal
You're not mine
You're not mine
You're not cool
You're not fine
I last lied
They ask why?
Like they can't die (they can't die)
I don't wanna live forever now, L.A.
I don't wanna live like that no more, L.A.
Only when we sleep
Promise that you'll keep
When you will never weep
Until you fail to breathe
Sleep tight, you were right all my life
Girl, you choke me sitting airtight
Ziploc right now
Will you let me win a fair fight?
Can't think right now
I can't lie, on my mind
I feel right, I feel right
I can't lie, on my mind
I feel right
In Joji's song WHY AM I STILL IN LA, he opens with feelings of suffocation and confinement, confessing that the girl he's with is choking him and keeping him in airtight conditions. He begs for a fair fight but is unable to think straight. However, despite this, he feels a sense of rightness in his mind which also appears in the lyrics of the chorus. He doesn't want to live forever in Los Angeles anymore and is not interested in living that lifestyle. He can only sleep when he's with his girl, but he's asking her to promise that she will keep this moment of peace by her side all night. She is his only support in the world because when she leaves him, he feels as though something is missing in his life.
In the second verse, Joji references "red eyes," which could suggest that he is crying or high on drugs, and he feels as though he and the girl he's with are dying in these moments. He realizes that this girl is not his and even though he may have been comfortable before, he knows deep down that it's not right. He admits that he has lied before to protect his unstable image and people ask him why he does it, but they don't understand that they are all living for a small moment and will eventually die.
