(Ironman) Ironman
'Tor, 'tor
Euh, (Captain America) Captain Manmerica
Tu m'as connu, j'faisais que détailler, ouais
On a laissé nos traces, ouais
Ton enfant, mon neuf mois, mon enfant, ton œuvre d'art
Ton enfant, mon neuf mois, mon enfant, ton œuvre d'art
Ton enfant, mon neuf mois, mon enfant, ton œuvre d'art
The lyrics to Jok'Air's song "Respect" reflect the complexities and emotions surrounding a broken relationship between two parents who have a child together.
In the first verse, Jok'Air references superheroes such as Ironman, Captain America, and the Black Panther. This can be seen as a metaphor for the strength and resilience needed in navigating difficult situations. The use of superheroes implies that the relationship faced overwhelming challenges, likened to fighting against cancer.
The following lines describe the couple's past and the changes they have gone through. Jok'Air reminisces about the love they shared and the memories they created before their relationship fell apart. Despite the separation, they have a child together, which is emphasized as a symbol of the love they once had.
The chorus highlights the importance of respect in their current situation. Although the parents no longer love each other, they acknowledge the significance of their child and remaining respectful for their sake. The use of "wesh," a slang term meaning "hey" or "yo," adds a casual and familiar tone to the lyrics, reflecting the street culture from which Jok'Air originates.
In the second verse, Jok'Air comments on how their child resembles both parents physically and in behavior. He expresses pride and love for their child, emphasizing that seeing them grow up is the most rewarding experience. The lyrics celebrate the authenticity and innocence of children, highlighting them as a true source of strength.
The repetition of "maintenant, c'est nous trois" (now, it's the three of us) reinforces the idea that even though the parents' relationship has changed, they are united by their child. Jok'Air expresses gratitude towards his partner for the child they created, considering them a symbol of peace and unity between them.
The final section of the song emphasizes the importance of family and children in Jok'Air's life. He values his children above material possessions, emphasizing that their presence brings joy and fulfillment. Jok'Air expresses his surprise at the fame his child has achieved, contrasting it with the initial disapproval and uncertainty surrounding their existence. Ultimately, he acknowledges that he is grateful to God for the gift of his child and embraces the role of being a proud father.
Overall, "Respect" is a heartfelt reflection on the complexities and emotions surrounding a broken relationship. Jok'Air celebrates the love he once shared with his partner, acknowledges the importance of their child, and emphasizes the need for respect and unity despite the changes in their relationship.
