Get Myself a Gun
Jon and Roy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I just seen trouble
He's calling out your name tonight
Billy get your guns

You could walk away
But I know you were born to fight
So Billy get your guns
The bandileros are strung out
In the promenade
Billy get your guns

And the wind whispers softly that the devil's to blame

Billy get your guns
There's trouble blowing like a hurricane
Billy get your guns
That's the price on your head for the
Price of fame
And it'll never change
Billy get your guns

There's a whiskey bottle empty
Sittin' on the bar
Billy get your guns
And some organ grinder singing
About some sucker moving on
Billy get your guns

All the whores are hanging out
Waiting to get paid
Billy get your guns
From some Johnny on the spot
Who said hey keep the change baby
Billy get your guns

Billy get your guns
There's trouble blowing like a hurricane
Billy get your guns
That's the price on your head for the
Price of fame
And it'll never change

They christened you with whiskey
And there's fire running through your veins
Well you're an outlaw just the same
And every night a bullet wears your name

(guitar solo)

Billy get your guns
There's trouble blowing like a hurricane
Billy get your guns
That's the price on your head for the
Price of fame
And it'll never change

I seen a hanged man dancing
Beneath the pale moonlight
Billy get your guns
And every stranger that you meet
Thinks it's his lucky night
Billy get your guns

I don't envy you Billy
But I want to say
You better get your guns
'Cause every outlaw that's died
Will live to ride again
Billy get your guns

Billy get your guns
There's trouble blowing like a hurricane
Billy get your guns
That's the price on your head for the
Price of fame
And it'll never change
Billy get your guns
Billy get your guns

The song "Get Myself a Gun" by Jon and Roy is a story about a man named Billy who is constantly facing trouble despite his attempts to walk away from it. The opening lines suggest that trouble is calling out Billy's name and that he needs to arm himself. The lyrics "Billy get your guns" are repeated throughout the song, emphasizing the need for action and protection.

The lyrics mention whiskey, guns, outlaws, and prostitutes, suggesting that Billy is involved in a seedy underground world. The line "They christened you with whiskey" gives the impression that Billy's outlaw identity is rooted in his past, and that he can never truly escape it.

The song's message is that Billy must protect himself, regardless of the cost or the danger that he faces. The line "And every outlaw that's died will live to ride again" implies that death is not an escape in this world, and that Billy will have to continue fighting and surviving as long as he lives. Heard this song on the Peak radio station in Vancouver and was surprised that they actually know how to play real music instead of the over-rated crap that they usually play. Great song.

I had your "Home" album on my ipod just before I took a trip to Utah.  For 5 days I ripped around the canyon lands one spring break.  This song reminds me of Arches National Park.  It takes me back to a good memory.  Keep on keepin on!
