Rollercoaster
Jonas Brothers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Happiness begins
Days lifted in a haze, we weren't just a phase
We weren't just pretend (just pretend)
I remember low lows and high highs
We threw our hands up, palms out to the skies
Those days when we were broke in California
We were up-and-down and barely made it over
But I'd go back and ride that roller coaster
It was fun when we were young and now we're older
Those days that are the worst, they seem to glow now
We were up-and-down and barely made it over
But I'd go back and ride that roller coaster with you
Woo ooh ooh, woo ooh
Woo ooh ooh (oh, oh)
But I'd come back and ride that roller coaster
Faith led me to the clouds, reaching for the ground
His life was upside down
Now everything has changed, we found better days
But I still hear the sound
I remember low lows and high highs
We threw our hands up, palms out to the skies
It was fun when we were young and now we're older
Those days when we were broke in California
We were up-and-down and barely made it over
But I'd go back and ride that roller coaster
It was fun when we were young and now we're older (oh)
Those days that are the worst, they seem to glow now (yeah)
We were up-and-down and barely made it over
But I'd go back and ride that roller coaster with you
Woo ooh ooh (yeah, with you)
Woo ooh (with you, with you)
Woo ooh ooh (oh, oh)
But I'd go back and ride that roller coaster
It was fun when we were young and now we're older (oh)
Those days that are the worst, they seem to glow now (yeah)
We were up-and-down and barely made it over
But I'd go back and ride that roller coaster
Nights, flying down the 10, nearly 2 AM
Happiness begins
The lyrics of "Rollercoaster" by the Jonas Brothers encapsulate the nostalgic longing for the carefree and exhilarating days of youth. The song begins with the image of late-night adventures, flying down the highway at almost 2 AM, representing a sense of freedom and spontaneity. This is contrasted with the phrase "Happiness begins," suggesting that the joyous moments in life often occur during these youthful experiences.
The lyrics go on to highlight the ups and downs of life, both metaphorically and through the imagery of riding a rollercoaster. The Jonas Brothers reminisce about the lows and highs they experienced together, raising their hands in surrender to the skies, symbolizing their surrender to the unpredictable nature of life. These moments, despite the challenges they faced, were filled with fun and excitement.
As they reflect on their journey, the lyrics emphasize the theme of growth and maturity. The line "It was fun when we were young and now we're older" underscores the passage of time and the changes that come with it. Yet, amidst the nostalgia, there is a yearning to go back and relive those moments, even with the knowledge that they were faced with struggles and uncertainty. It is a testament to the power of cherished memories and the desire to recapture the thrill of those experiences.
Overall, "Rollercoaster" captures the essence of the Jonas Brothers' journey through life, celebrating the highs, acknowledging the lows, and expressing a desire to hold onto the exhilaration of youth.
