Strangers
Jonathan Hutcherson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I know what ya look when laughing 'cause you're nervous
Yeah, that song you put on when you're feeling so low,
Hurtin', drivin' round and round
I know how to like to drink your coffee when it's raining
How your voice sounds when you're talking through a payphone
Callin' just 'cause
Seein' you here tonight like you don't even know my name
Feels like we're strangers
Looking at me like you've never seen me before
Strangers
Saying hello like you don't know me anymore
We were free like fire felt forever to the touch?
Two worlds tied together,
Never thought that we'd end up strangers, oh
Strangers

I don't know if I should walk away to just play along
Underneath this composure is only confusion
How did we go from happy to losing it all?

Strangers
Looking at me like you've never seen me before
Strangers
Saying hello like you don't know me anymore
We were free like fire felt forever to the touch?
Two worlds tied together,
Never thought that we'd end up strangers

Strangers
I don't wanna be strangers

Strangers
Looking at me like you've never seen me before
Strangers
Saying hello like you don't know me anymore
We were free like fire felt forever to the touch?
Two worlds tied together,
Never thought that we'd end up strangers

I don't wanna be
I don't wanna be

I don't wanna be
I don't wanna be, no

Overall Meaning

In Jonathan Hutcherson's song "Strangers," the lyrics express the feeling of being disconnected and unfamiliar with someone who was once so familiar. The singer knows the ins and outs of the person, from their nervous laughter to the song they listen to when feeling down, but now they seem like strangers. The confusion and feelings of loss are expressed in the line "How did we go from happy to losing it all?" The chorus repeats the word "strangers" several times, emphasizing the feeling of unfamiliarity and disconnect.

The lyrics also showcase the internal struggle of the singer, as they debate whether to walk away or continue to try and hold onto what they once had. They don't want to be strangers, and the repetition of the line "I don't wanna be" at the end of the song emphasizes this desire.

Overall, the lyrics of "Strangers" showcase the painful experience of losing the familiarity and connection with someone who once meant everything, leaving both parties feeling like strangers to each other.

Well, what can I say? The Hutcherson family members are definitely not strangers! You live, work, play and pray together. This video made me cry. I'd already purchased the song but seeing it on the "big" screen just made me tear up! The boys and that cutie pie sister, Dad and of course the heart of the home Mom at the end, just made the video super special. Jonathan and Luke are both on the path to greatness. Jonathan, don't be a "Stranger". Keep those songs coming! From Missouri City, Texas, I'm sending lots of LOVE & BLESSINGS to you and your family!
