Don't Blame Me
Joni James Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Ever since the lucky night I found you
I've hung around you just like a fool
Falling head and heels in love like a kid out of school.

My poor heart is in an awful state now
But it's too late now to call a halt

So if I become a nuisance it's all your fault!

Don't blame me for falling in love with you
I'm under your spell but how can I help it!
Don't' blame me!

Can't you see when you do the things you do!
If I can't conceal the thrill that I'm feeling,
Don't blame; me.

Ican't help it if that doggoned moon above
Makes me need someone like you to love!

Blame your kiss as sweet as a kiss can be
And blame all your charms that melt in my arms
But don't blame me.

I like every single thing about you
Without a doubt you are like a dream
In my mind I find a picture of us as a team

Ever since the hour of our meeting
I've been repeating a silly phrase
Hoping that you'll understand me one of these days.

WOW I remember this song when I was a kid and played this on my Mom and Dad's great big record player/radio combo that was about 3 feet tall and had the greatest sound ever... thanks chesterst10 for the memories!

@joeasmythe

Joni the Wonderful does it again, Thanks John.

@Pacabelle

Thank you chesterst10. This song originally came from Joni and 100 Strings album called I'm In The Mood For Love: Joni Sings Jimmy McHugh's songs. This album is never released in its entirety. Some of the songs from that album appeared on her Carnegie Hall CD and Joni and 100 Strings CD. One of the songs I love most from this album is called "I Walked In With My Eyes Wide Open"....it's so sumptuous and so romantic! Let's hope one day MGM will release this album.

I'm Joni's fan club president (for 62 years now!) and she does plan to release "I'm In the Mood for Love", with some bonus tracks. This was her second recording of "Don't Blame Me," the first coming in her fourth album "When I Fall in Love." That is a particularly interesting album as it was planned and recorded as a eight-song 10 inch LP. Then it was decided to add four songs and issue the album as a twelve-inch LP. But at that point the 45 extended play version of the album had been pressed so the originally recorded eight songs appeared in that package and the four later songs appeared on a single 45 extended play record. Who knows how many people eagerly bought the eight-song album and never knew there were four more songs out there.
