He didn't just stop at videos on YouTube; he also decided to make music. This first started with a number of individual songs on YouTube and Soundcloud, but he soon dropped his EP Dakloos, with the most popular songs ''Dakloos'' and ''Zelfgemaakt''. A year later he also released the mixtape Scandinavian Boy, which sparked his breakthrough in the music world. His biggest hit was the song of the same name 'Scandinavian Boy'.
The fact that Joost owes a large part of his music career to Donnie has probably not escaped the attention of the outside world. Joost and Donnie had already released the song ''René Froger'' together, but they don't stop there. They released Marketing's album M together, with Parmesan and Linkerbaan as their most popular songs.
Six months later, Joost finally released his first album: Albino. This album contains previously released songs such as ''OmeRobert'' and ''Meeuw'', but mainly new music. The song of the same name ''Albino'' is by far the most popular, although ''Joost Klein'' and ''Bus Gemist'' (ft. Mick Spek) are also very popular.
In the following years, Joost dropped multiple projects: ''1983'' (named after the birthyear of his brother), ''Joost Klein 7'', ''Albino Sports, Vol. 1'' (Together with Brunzyn) and ''Fryslân''.
In 2023 it was announced that Joost will represent the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö.

But I'm from the Netherlands
Born in Stockholm
But I'm from the Netherlands
Born in Stockholm
But I'm from the Netherlands
Pull up in Amsterdam
I got the rubber bands
But I'm from the Netherlands
Born in Stockholm
But I'm from the Netherlands
Born in Stockholm
But I'm from the Netherlands
Pull up in Amsterdam
I got the rubberbands
Snelle Planga net Riff
Riced out in die bitch
Op je huid net een cyste
Lippenstift rood een Suzuki Swift
Ik ben een kapitalist
Ik ben op ei als een kip
Al mijn mannen zijn te dik
Wij passen niet in die lift
Look at the flick of the wrist
In het donker geef ik licht
Wordt dat en Christian Kist
Ik ben geen rapper maar een populist
Ik ga niet dood in een kist
Ik verdween in die mist
Ik kijk effe Schindler's List
De Nederlandse Taylor Swift
Born in Stockholm
But I'm from the Netherlands
Born in Stockholm
But I'm from the Netherlands
Born in Stockholm
But I'm from the Netherlands
Pull up in Amsterdam
I got the rubber bands
Born in Stockholm
But I'm from the Netherlands
Born in Stockholm
But I'm from the Netherlands
Born in Stockholm
But I'm from the Netherlands
Pull up in Amsterdam
I got the rubberbands
Ik doe dit voor mijn kids
En ik heb niet eens kids
Speel effe de Sims
Voel met Henk-Jan Smits
Kom designer tot de rits
Mijn money wit net Maurits
Gappie jij bent op niks
Patta van de game
Analyst eh
Wil goud in mijn gebit
Wil een klap in mijn gezicht
Jij bent op saus als dips
Gek als Kiss
Serieus net een jurist
Ik bombard Angerfist
Ik chap wat fish en chips
Versace Goudvis
Born in Stockholm
But I'm from the Netherlands
Born in Stockholm
But I'm from the Netherlands
Born in Stockholm
But I'm from the Netherlands
Pull up in Amsterdam
I got the rubber bands
Born in Stockholm
But I'm from the Netherlands
Born in Stockholm
But I'm from the Netherlands
Born in Stockholm
But I'm from the Netherlands
Pull up in Amsterdam
I got the rubberbands
The lyrics of Joost's song "sTOcKhOlM" delve into the concept of cultural identity and the juxtaposition of being born in one place while feeling a strong connection to another. Throughout the song, the artist repeats the lines "Born in Stockholm, but I'm from the Netherlands," emphasizing this duality and the internal conflict that comes with it. The repeated chorus serves as a reminder of the artist's roots while also acknowledging the influence of another culture on his identity.
In the verses, we see a mix of braggadocio and introspection as Joost navigates his feelings of displacement and longing for home. He references Amsterdam, a city in the Netherlands, where he mentions pulling up with "rubber bands," which could be interpreted as a symbol of wealth or success. The juxtaposition of being born in Stockholm, a place not associated with the Netherlands, adds complexity to his narrative and suggests a deeper exploration of his personal history and sense of belonging.
Additionally, Joost's lyrics touch on themes of materialism and status symbols, as he mentions having a "Snelle Planga" (a type of sunglasses) and being "Riced out in die bitch," likely alluding to being well-equipped or styled in a flashy manner. He also mentions a Suzuki Swift, using imagery to convey his individuality and unique style. These references to material possessions serve as a contrast to his reflections on his cultural background and feelings of displacement.
Furthermore, Joost's lyrics highlight a sense of playfulness and irony, evident in lines like "Ik ben geen rapper maar een populist" (I'm not a rapper but a populist) and "Speel effe de Sims" (Play some Sims), suggesting a mix of self-awareness and humor in his storytelling. There is also a nod to pop culture with mentions of Taylor Swift and Schindler's List, adding layers to his references and showcasing a blend of personal experiences with broader cultural influences.
Overall, Joost's song "sTOcKhOlM" is a complex exploration of identity, belonging, and personal reflection. Through his lyrics, he navigates the nuances of cultural heritage, materialism, and self-expression, ultimately creating a multi-faceted narrative that invites listeners to reflect on their own sense of self and connection to the world around them.
