Jordan Hill's self-titled debut album appeared on May 21, 1996. Produced by David Foster, Greg Charley, Rhett Lawrence, Jeff Pescetto, SoulShock & Karlin and Mario Winans, this album had the notable production. Jordan covered many songs, such as Cheryl Lynn's disco classic "Got To Be Real", Oleta Adams' "I Just Had To Hear Your Voice" (from 1993's "Evolution" album), Lisa Stansfield's "Make It Right." "For The Love Of You," produced by David Foster and Co-produced by Mario Winans, was release as the first single. It became the minor hit both in Billboard Hot 100 and R&B/Hip charts. However, the remix version by Tony Moran became her one and only Top 10 hit in Hot Dance Music/Club Play charts.
The second single "How Many Times" (which is covered by Aretha Franklin in 1998) and the third single "Too Much Heaven", which is produced by The Bee Gees' Barry Gibb and sang backup, both failed in chart. Due to the poor album sales, 143 Records dropped her.
She still worked with some notable artists, such as The Bee Gees and Jim Brickman, on whose 1999 Top 10 Adult Contemporary hit "Destiny" she was a featured vocalist, along with Billy Porter.
What Am I Doing Here

Living out a dream
The vision is finally clear
Of what it all cold really mean
What am I doing here
Heart, don't listen to my mind
I've got nothing left to fear
I've played it out a thousand times
Or might I stumble and fall
Could it be my time to shine
My time to have it all
And will someone else's
Fate be linked with mine
Will my place be
Etched in endless time
All the hope, the quest
The love of humankind
And the rest of it
Depends on how
We try to make it end
What am I doing here
There's just no place I'd rather be
I've never felt so aware
I memorize everything I see
Oh, do I have a chance
Or might I stumble and fall
Could it be my time to shine
My time to have it all
And will someone else's
Fate be linked with mine
Will my place be
Etched in endless time
All the hope, the quest
The love of humankind
And the rest of it
Depends on how
We try to make it end
All the hope, the quest
The love of humankind
And the rest of it
Depends on how we try
To make it end...
With the help of one
Good friend...
To give the best I can
That's what I'm doing here
In Jordan Hill's song "What Am I Doing Here", the singer expresses a sense of clarity and purpose in the present moment while contemplating the uncertainty of their future. The lyrics demonstrate an inner struggle between the heart and mind as the singer questions whether they have what it takes to succeed or if they will stumble and fall. The tone of the song is optimistic and hopeful, with a focus on the potential for greatness that lies ahead. The singer seems to acknowledge that there may be challenges and obstacles in their path, but ultimately their fate is determined by how they approach life and the choices they make.
The chorus of the song emphasizes the importance of connection with others, as the singer wonders if their fate is linked with someone else's. The idea of being "etched in endless time" suggests a desire for lasting impact and recognition in the world. The song touches on themes of self-discovery, hope, and the human quest for purpose and meaning. Ultimately, the singer concludes that they are doing what they can to make the most of their life and give their best effort, even if the outcome is uncertain.
