Babylon Respect Lower
Josh Heinrichs Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You know its marijuana I have to burn
Taking it seriously no messin around
I know it was love that I found
You know theres honor in burning the herbs
Tradition of solomon people ya heard
The truest meditation on earth
But babylon could never understand the herbs
Why police make it illegal
why the church have the highest steeple
they gotta be the leading powers while
them respect is growing lower
So they lock up I idren with rapists and murderers
Just for what, burning the herb
Calling us "burnouts" with no motivation
Well I say ive got no motivation to be in this babylon situation
No motivation to be in a babylon situation
No 40 hours of money work for me
Splitting myself into 2 personalities
I can only live for my family
And the blessings of jah unto me
Why police make it illegal
why the church have the highest steeple
they gotta be the leading powers
while them respect is growing lower
Its marijuana that I love
In "Babylon Respect Lower," Josh Heinrichs expresses his love for marijuana and acknowledges the honor and tradition that comes with burning the herb. He takes it seriously and implies that for him, it is the truest form of meditation on earth. However, he laments the fact that Babylon, or mainstream society, could never understand the herbs, and has made it illegal. Heinrichs questions why the police and church - the leading powers - have made it illegal when it brings so much joy and peace to those who burn it.
Heinrichs takes issue with the perception that burning marijuana is a negative thing. He asserts that despite the stigma associated with it, it should not be a crime, nor should people be incarcerated for it. He advocates for respecting those who choose to burn marijuana, and rejecting society's expectations to conform by living for money and working forty hours a week, which he himself is not willing to do. Heinrichs sees the value of living for his family and embracing the blessings of Jah, or God, in his life instead.
Overall, "Babylon Respect Lower" carries a message of rejecting societal norms and embracing individuality, while highlighting the honor and tradition of burning marijuana. It also sheds light on the discrimination and profiling that those who burn marijuana face, and advocates for respect and understanding.
