Let It Rain
Journey Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

'Cause in your head
Some pressure builds
Said something's coming
Coming down on you
'Cause the heaviness
Impression on your whole truth
Feeling emptiness
What you gonna do?

No time to hide it
No time to fight it

Let it rain
I said let it rain
Let it rain

When lightning strikes
No one feels safe
You can't stop the storm
You can't get in its way
You can't plow the ground
Plant all your seeds
Skies don't open up
Never getting what you need

No time to hide it
No time to fight it
Let it rain
No time to hide it
No time to fight it
Let it rain
Oh, let it rain
Oh, yeah

Yeah, baby, yeah, baby, yeah, baby, yeah

No time to hide it
Oh, no time to fight it
Let it rain
No time to hide it
Ooh, ooh, ooh, no time to fight it
Let it rain
Oh, let it rain
Oh, let it rain
Oh, oh, oh let it rain (let it rain)

Let it rain
Let it rain

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Journey's song "Let It Rain" depict a sense of overwhelming pressure and heaviness that is building up inside. The opening lines suggest a feeling of imminent doom or something pressing down on the listener, creating a sense of unease and emptiness. The repetition of the question "What you gonna do?" highlights the feeling of being trapped in a situation where there seems to be no easy way out.

The chorus, with its plea to "Let it rain," serves as a metaphor for allowing these emotions and struggles to come to the surface and be released. The imagery of a storm and lightning striking conveys a feeling of chaos and unpredictability, where even the most diligent efforts cannot prevent or control the forces at play. The mention of planting seeds that never grow underscores the idea that sometimes our efforts may not yield the results we desire, no matter how hard we try.

The repeated refrain of "No time to hide it, no time to fight it" emphasizes the idea of acceptance and surrender to these difficult emotions and circumstances. Through the act of letting it rain, there is a sense of catharsis and release, allowing the listener to come to terms with their struggles and let go of the need to constantly resist or suppress them. The escalating energy in the song, with the exhortation to just let it rain, suggests a transformative experience where embracing vulnerability and facing challenges head-on can lead to growth and healing.

Overall, the lyrics of "Let It Rain" convey a message of resilience in the face of overwhelming odds, urging the listener to embrace their struggles and allow themselves to feel and process their emotions without fear or resistance. By accepting the storms in life and letting them wash over us, we can find a sense of peace and clarity that comes from facing our fears and vulnerabilities head-on. The song serves as a powerful reminder that sometimes the best way to weather the storms of life is to simply let it rain.

Edgy. And that bass line. Wow. I’m old enough to remember Journey in the ‘70s. Can’t wait for the album.

What a superb performance by Arnel Pineda and the band. Arnel Pineda gave Journey this badass rock persona. Definitely he is the best vocalist and frontman of the rock band Journey!

@thor573

Agreed!

@_Dauphin_

Definitely. They need more badass music I think. They’ve got enough pop-rock music in their old albums, Maybe they should go metal-rock as well or more into prog-rock or whatever you call them.

@alromn

This is so good when you get bored listening Journey pure ballad song.
Eclipse and freedom is the best album for me.

No one can love Steve Perry more than I do. However, I give credit where credit is due... Journey is and always has been Neal's band... time changes everything. Journey still rocks.. right now every RNR band is struggling... they seem to be doing EXCELLENT 💗

@idalucero1260

Journey was about to be dropped by their label, Steve Perry brought the magic of his voice and kept Journey from the fate that was about to happen. Instead, Steve Perry led them to the heights of their most successful Era.
