Was at Warehouse Project last Saturday and Disclosure whapped this one out across the Concourse… took me back to better times and sounded absolutely incredible. The lights dipping across the crowd to that vocal sample gave me goosebumps then and still does thinking about it now. Such a timeless classic.

Just discovered this song because I was reading an interview done with Disclosure 10 years ago. Guy Lawrence was saying he saw Joy Orbison live in 2009 and this song was what changed the game for him and really inspired their style. Cool to hear they're continuing to pay homage by including it in their sets.

I don't think I could describe this as one particular genre, as theres just so many influences going on here.
And I'm at least 34% sure that describing every element 100% correctly to the extent where everyone agrees would result in something similar to that scene in Indiana Jones when the Nazis look at the ark and their eyeballs all melt and that.

This was when all sorts of stuff was being tested. It didn't catch on... dubstep and all these slow beats died along with it. DnB and Garage are still alive and kicking but that weird phase of music has left behind bangers like this

@@peterdavies6994 oof you are talking about 12 years ago self. I was still trying to sort out the amount of influences that made Hyph Mngo possible, and there are many going around. There is Detroit, for sure, but now I know that it was mostly born out of reivindication of uk garage (which had been demonised to the point of forgetting about its existence, hence the "post dubstep" label). As you say now, it is a very british thing, with the insistent synth pads, the chopped vocal samples and the broken beatish rhythm pattern.
