Shake it loose and let it fall
Layin' soft upon my skin
Like the shadows on the wall
Come and lay down by my side
Till the early mornin' light
All I'm takin' is your time
I don't care who's right or wrong
I don't try to understand
Let the devil take tomorrow
Lord tonight I need a friend
Yesterday is dead and gone
And tomorrow's out of sight
And it's sad to be alone
Joyce Bond's song "Help Me Make It Through The Night" bears the universal theme of loneliness and the yearning for companionship that we all feel from time to time. The song is marked by a sense of vulnerability and a raw emotionalism that come together to make it feel both intimate and honest. The opening lines of the song, "take the ribbon from your hair, shake it loose and let it fall, layin' soft upon my skin, like the shadows on the wall" paint a vivid picture of a moment of closeness and intimacy that feels like a necessary escape from the problems of the world.
The singer in the song reaches out for human connection, seeking comfort in the physical presence of another person. The lyrics of the chorus intensify this sense of longing, "Come and lay down by my side, till the early mornin' light, all I'm takin' is your time, help me make it through the night". Here, the singer is desperate for a companion to provide a mere moment of solace and comfort, even if it is for only one night. The verses and chorus come together to create a heartfelt plea for companionship, showcasing the human necessity for contact.
Overall, Joyce Bond's "Help Me Make It Through The Night," is a powerful and emotionally rich song that reminds us of the essential nature of human companionship. It is a song that speaks to a universal need for understanding, and it connects with listeners in a way that feels both intimate and relatable.

I had trouble sleeping almost every night, with dreams I could not recall but knew they had to do with wrongs I had done. I know now I was wrestling with the spirit of God within me. Rather than going to bed thinking of what is wrong in my life I now go to bed thankful for my life and all of my blessings. I sleep much better.
