Europa
Jptr Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

europa in my eye, glisten and glare
all that ice, bright spell
arctic utopia luxuria

paragon in disguise, europia
wall of ice, frozen shell
sedate me your op' my
opia

let me in, bone and skin
let me in, all my kin
let me in, bone and skin
let me in, be my sin

dividing lonely eyes
circe's glass glossy beads
hypothermic dystopia
still need you my opia

transfixing orb
my fix my addiction
lunatic attraction
bend my will

let me in, bone and skin
let me in, all my kin
let me in, bone and skin
let me in, I'm your sin

let go!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to JPTR's song "Europa" evoke an image of a frozen, Arctic landscape that glistens and glares in the singer's eye. The ice's bright spell suggests a beautiful yet dangerous allure, an arctic utopia luxuria. The singer describes Europa, a moon of Jupiter, as a paragon in disguise, a wall of ice and frozen shell that sedates the singer's opia, or vision. The singer yearns to be let in, bone and skin, with all their kin, suggesting a desire for connection and intimacy.

The second verse continues with the theme of isolation and yearning for connection. The singer refers to "dividing lonely eyes," perhaps referring to the duality of seeing the beauty and danger of the frozen landscape. Circe's glass glossy beads suggest a dangerous seduction, while hypothermic dystopia signals a harsh reality. Despite these dangers, the singer still needs Europa, their opia, suggesting a dependence or addiction to the dangerous beauty of the frozen moon.

The chorus repeats the plea to be let in, bone and skin, with all their kin, suggesting a desperate yearning for connection and intimacy, even if it means being sinful. The final line "let go!" could be interpreted as a release from this yearning or a call to action to the object of the singer's desire.

Iris Jane

yes, that's impressive, but unfortunately the crowd doesn't have an ear to appreciate this, that's art and personality reflected in the music, it could be better known but what many bands would do is make the style more entertaining and commercial and that magic would be lost and that to those bands and artists like JPTR or Bec Plexus or Anna Von Hausswolff or Katie Gately or Mary Ocher, ect, ect, ect... it doesn't suit them, they would defend their art above any price
