Away
Juel Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I been away for a minute
She telling me don't leave like can you can stay for a minute
I don't really want the trouble but i'll pay you a visit
Can't give what you ask for
I'm flying no passport

Okay you chill i got place we can stay
Maybe we can walk it out or ride the bikes with the haze
Nah i'm talking dijon but i got yellow for days
And if you got a man cool he can find his own way i mean

Your kinda chill, i think you're cool, my niggas told me watch out, but then i watched you move
And i then had to get digits, and probably go get some food
But let me get out the way cause i don't mean to be rude

I said you stuck in my head
And idk if i can do this again

You got me hooked to a thread
Dont talk to me, speak to me leave you on read

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Juel's song Away depict a situation where the artist has been away and upon his return, he has received a warm welcome from a woman. She urges him to stay with her for a while longer, which he is not entirely opposed to. He then offers her an invitation to hang out and chill, suggesting either a walk, bike ride or the indulgence of some dijon. The artist is clearly taken with the woman, and remarks that his friends warned him to be careful, but her movement caught his eye and her number was obtained. Although he is smitten, he expresses concern about being hurt, saying that she has him hooked by a thread and he is unsure if he can deal with it, hence the line "You got me hooked to a thread, don't talk to me, speak to me, leave you on read."

When I was 12 my bestfriend Bree lost her mom and the next morning I was in her living room with her and she put's this cassette in and Jewel comes on. It was this song specifically and she tells me this song reminds of her mom and we listened to it over and over again while I helped her clean her house for her dad. Four years later Bree died in a car accident and I played this for her,for me, endlessly. She was the first person to teach me that music can soothe the soul and bring some much needed peace and a little reprieve from heartache.

Wait until you hit 40.

All that is beautiful is from above, it is a divine gift. When we hear these gifts so beautifully used as it is in this video, we have an inner, deep feeling that can't be explained, and it hits hard. The world was never meant to be this way

I'm trying to recover from an alcohol addiction. I'm 1 week in, going strong. I was feeling the urge to drink this morning until I heard this song. It gave me strength to keep pushing forward with my sobriety. Everything about this song touches my soul. God bless the people who made it!! I will definitely be tapping into this song often.

And yes I quit drinking alcohol so know it can be done so walk on!
