Jukebox the Ghost is a Washington, D.C.-born, Brooklyn-based three-piece rock band. The band consists of Ben Thornewill (vocals & piano), Tommy Siegel (vocals & guitar) and Jesse Kristin (drums). Since 2006, Jukebox the Ghost has toured extensively.
In 2003, Ben, Tommy, and Jesse met while attending George Washington University. Shortly after, they formed a band called The Sunday Mail. They took a semester's break to study abroad, and re-formed upon returning as Jukebox the Ghost. They came up with the name after combining lyrics from a Captain Beefheart song and a line from the book Pnin by Vladimir Nabokov.
In 2008, they released their first album "Let Live & Let Ghosts", and began playing new songs in concerts.
Jukebox the Ghost recorded a cover of Ace of Base's "Beautiful Life" for Engine Room Recordings' compilation album Guilt by Association Vol. 2, which was released in November 2008.
Following their tour with Ben Folds in early April 2009, they began their headlining tour in the UK with Nightmare of You. They began their headlining tour with Jenny Owen Youngs back in the United States on April 30 in Chicago, IL. This tour lasted into June, at which point they temporarily stopped touring to concentrate on their next album, "Everything Under the Sun." The band began recording for the new album on September 29th, 2009 at Tarquin Studios in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
In February 2010, Jukebox the Ghost toured across Europe with Adam Green of The Moldy Peaches. This was followed by a separate tour in the United States with bands Tally Hall and Skybox. They will begin touring once again in late May 2010 with the band Free Energy, and will be playing at Lollapalooza in Chicago this August.
"The Popular Thing," a song from their upcoming album, is featured in the movie Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
My heart
Jukebox the Ghost Lyrics

Like I ain't been broke before
And it feels good,
It feels good...we should do this more.
I can't see your ears no more
I fell in love with you when your hair was still short
But now you've gone and matured
Like we cut it short.
I can still see you face
All thought the years may have forced some change
And I know I'm no longer the same
And I hope I don't show it.
But my heart's the same.
One by one they come and pass
In pairs of two we know we can't last
And I hope I don't show it
But my heart's the same.
Promise, Promise Sweetheart
Fingers round in time
Fingers round each other
And all of this in time
But the cold ain't so cold
When you hold,
Yourself to me.
"My Heart's the Same" by Jukebox the Ghost is a poignant reflection on love, loss, and change. The opening lines suggest a familiarity with heartbreak, as if it has become a common occurrence for the singer. Yet there's a sense that something about this particular experience is different, "And it feels good, It feels good...we should do this more." This juxtaposition of pain and pleasure points to the complicated nature of love and relationships. Sometimes we find ourselves drawn to what hurts us, and the cycle repeats itself.
The second verse references a physical change in the object of the singer's affection. They fell in love with someone whose hair was short, but now that person has matured and may eventually cut it again. This highlights the passing of time and how it affects not just ourselves but those around us. The lines "And I know I'm no longer the same / And I hope I don't show it / But my heart's the same" speak to the idea that even as we change over time, deep down, we remain the same person we've always been.
The chorus brings in the theme of impermanence - the idea that people come and go in our lives, and sometimes it feels like we're just passing through. But even in these fleeting moments, the singer's heart remains constant. The final stanza, "Promise, Promise Sweetheart / Fingers round in time / Fingers round each other / And all of this in time / But the cold ain't so cold / When you hold yourself to me," suggests that despite the ups and downs of life, the act of holding onto each other can bring warmth and comfort.
Overall, "My Heart's the Same" is a bittersweet reflection on the impermanence of life and the constancy of the human heart. It speaks to the universal experience of change and the struggle to hold onto what we hold dear, even as time marches on.
