Girl on the Sporting News
Julian Plenti Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Girl on the sporting news
I just wanna tell you one thing
You've got the kind of sex appeal
That doesn't get a guy like me down

So bring it up
Bring clips of the sexiest sports moves in for the score
Fill it up
Fill minutes up
And talk about that glorious season
Until I'm sore

Light my love away
Bye bye
Ride my love away
Bye bye

It could be seven point seven or three plus nine
But baby, your fate has been set,
So have a good time
Give me one good reason
And I'll give you mine
But baby, don't leave me like that
When there's still so much more time together
Let's gather together.

Ride my love away
Bye bye
Ride my love away
Bye bye

Baby don't buy that dress on lonely street
No, girl don't buy that dress on lonely street

Overall Meaning

The song Girl on the Sporting News by Julian Plenti is an ode to the power and allure of female athletes, both in their athleticism and in their sex appeal. The lyrics describe a man who is captivated by a woman he sees on the sporting news, admiring both her physical prowess and her sexual attractiveness. He begs her to continue to inspire him with images and videos of the sexiest sports moves, and to talk about the glorious season until he is sore.

The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "ride my love away, bye bye," which could be interpreted as a metaphor for the man surrendering himself to his obsession with this woman and abandoning his worldly cares in favor of following her. The verses contain a mix of numerical references (such as "seven point seven or three plus nine") and pleas for the woman not to leave him on "lonely street" without giving him a reason why. Ultimately, the song seems to celebrate the way that female athletes can be both empowering and erotic, and the hold that they can have over the imaginations of men.

Julian Plenti was the name he used to perform under before interpol. He said that he didnt really want anyone to know about who he really was and all his peronal life, and that he was just there to give them music so thy didnt need to know his rela name. it just made sense for him for his solo career to be under this name too, also to help him seperate it from the interpol buzz.
