Jaffer, a natural talent whose limbs were too long to dance, met a counterpart in LaRosa, a guitarist and percussionist’s dream who from a young age had been told that “musician” wasn’t an achievable career. Though conventionally unlikely on the global scale that a Pakistani songstress would find her way into the creative adventures of a drummer from Indianapolis, they found in their partnership a desire to make music for music’s sake; to write honest songs that meant something true enough for themselves, that someone else might be able to take it and make it true for them, as well.
The AWRY EP, helmed by Omar Yakar (War on Drugs, Perfume Genius) from Boulevard Recording, whose engineering and production prowess brought this young and refreshing outfit’s mountainous incubations to life. The duo initially set out with the intention of nothing but creation and expression and resulted in a stunning collection of tracks detailing the emotions of freedom. Jaffer reveals, “The underlying theme is about coming to terms with experiences and hardships we have faced and finally putting them out there. It’s very healing.”
Junaco hope to create music that will leave listeners feeling a sense of connection and closeness to. With the aim to remind others of our innate human emotions, Junaco’s debut EP, “Awry,” highlights just how similar we are at our cores.
Rêverie
Junaco Lyrics

Roads are full of faces
That I've already seen
Waking up to your name
Everybody's watching
But nobody can see
Comfortable in fire
That I can barely breathe
Looking from the high rise
Everybody's watching
But nobody can see
Leave me in my reverie
Don't take too long
Guess the lucid days of
Wandering are gone
Have you got a way out?
What's another day,
They're calling it a waste, and
I don't really know why
Born on the other side
Never in the grain
They called it a waste, but
I already knew
Leave me in my reverie
Don't take too long
Guess the lucid days of
Wandering are gone
Leave me in my reverie
Don't take too long
Guess the lucid days of
Wandering are gone
In Junaco's song "Reverie," the lyrics depict a sense of feeling overwhelmed and trapped in one's own mind. The opening lines, "Running out of headspace, Roads are full of faces, That I've already seen," suggest a feeling of mental exhaustion and a mundane familiarity with the external world. It's as if the singer is surrounded by people and places they've encountered before, and they long for something new and refreshing.
The next lines, "Waking up to your name, Everybody's watching, But nobody can see," indicate a sense of longing for a deeper connection or understanding. Despite having attention from others, the singer feels invisible and unheard. The line "I guess I'm staying this time, Comfortable in fire, That I can barely breathe" suggests a paradoxical comfort in being trapped in a difficult or challenging situation. It implies a resignation to the struggles and suffocation, showcasing the internal conflict the singer is experiencing.
The following lines, "Looking from the high rise, Everybody's watching, But nobody can see," continue to emphasize the singer's perception of being observed without truly being understood or seen for who they are. It reflects a feeling of isolation even in a crowded or public space.
The recurring plea, "Leave me in my reverie, Don't take too long, Guess the lucid days of Wandering are gone," implies a desire to be left alone in their own thoughts and dreams. It suggests that the singer has come to terms with the fact that their days of wandering freely and experiencing moments of clarity or inspiration are fleeting. The reference to the "lucid days" indicates a loss of clarity and a yearning for those moments to return.
Overall, "Reverie" conveys a longing for escape, a sense of being misunderstood, and a recognition of the inner battles that accompany the desire for freedom and self-discovery.
