On My Way
June Valerie Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Went to a beautiful place one time
Didn't care nothing 'bout a nickel or a dime
Sat there watching the river roll by
Spend my whole life with a tear in my eye
Lord, and I'm on my way
Oh and it won't be long
Lord and I'm holding on
Lord I'm on my way
Oh and it won't be long
Lord and I'm holding on

Gravity getting the best of me
Won't be long as far as I can see
Ashes to ashes
We all fall down
No use fighting what's sealed and bound

Lord I'm on my way
Oh and it won't be long
Lord and I'm holding on

Pushin' my weight against stone walls
Playin' a guitar given by grandpa'
He never learned to pick one tune
Gave his soul to heaven in the month of June

Lord I'm on my way

Oh and it won't be long
Lord and I'm holding on

Overall Meaning

In June Valerie's song "On My Way", the lyrics describe the journey of a person who has experienced the beauty of life and the struggles that come with it. The first verse highlights a moment in time when the singer visited a beautiful place and didn't value material possessions but rather focused on watching the river roll by. Despite this beautiful experience, the singer's life has been marked by sadness, as they have spent their entire life with a tear in their eye. The chorus "Lord, and I'm on my way, Oh and it won't be long, Lord and I'm holding on" implies that despite the struggles, there is a sense of determination and hope for a better future.

The second verse speaks about the inevitability of death, with gravity getting the best of the person, and they can see that it won't be long until this happens. The lines "Ashes to ashes, We all fall down, No use fighting what's sealed and bound" reflect the acceptance of the circle of life and the fact that we all have to face mortality at some point. The third verse speaks about the person's love for music and their grandfather, who played the guitar but did not learn to pick one tune, yet who still gave his soul to heaven in the month of June, suggesting that he found peace in death.

Overall, "On My Way" is a reflective and contemplative song that speaks to the struggles and beauty of life, and the acceptance of death as a natural part of the cycle of life.

I like Valerie her music very much! It is very relaxing and also the lyrics are very good! This song gives me the feeling that I am on my way to my purpose or destiny. I also like songs like Wanna be on your mind and You can't be told of Valerie. Those songs are very influencial for me. I had a lot of fun listening to those songs while doing yoga and meditation. The music of Valerie gives me a lot of joy and other positive emotions! I will buy her new record soon!
