Best I Ever Had
Just Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But I never understood, just why you waited in the light
Feeling like to carry, to open up and on
Is the feeling that I waited for, my whole damn life when I see you
But it feels so bad, oh you're the best I ever had
And when you walk away, and the moment is wrong
But it feels so right, rest in me tonight
Suffer of hard things, everything men
Your lovely flavoured breath, I take away to hear again
I hold my sadness, in the cold cold night
I never did forget, that you were always right and I miss you
But it feels so bad, oh you're the best I ever had
And when you walk away, and the moment is wrong
But it feels so right, rest in me tonight
But it feels so bad, you're the best I ever had
And when you walk away, rest in me today
But it feels so bad, oh you're the best I ever had
And when you walk away, and the moment is wrong
But it feels so right, rest in me tonight
Rest in me tonight
The lyrics of Just's song "Best I Ever Had" seem to describe a complicated and emotional relationship. The first verse suggests that someone is hiding or keeping something hidden, while the singer doesn't understand why they waited in the light. This could signify a person who tries to hide their true self or emotions but still wants to be seen or recognized. The singer expresses a longing to open up and carry the weight of the connection they have been waiting for all their life.
The chorus reveals conflicting emotions. The singer confesses that even though it feels bad when the person they're referring to walks away, they still consider them to be the best they have ever had. There is a sense of yearning and regret in these lines, as if the singer knows deep down that the relationship is not right for them. But despite this, there is a strong bond and attraction that keeps them hooked.
The second verse introduces a suffering that the singer endures, possibly due to the difficult nature of the relationship. They describe the other person's breath as lovely and addictive, suggesting that even the smallest things they do or say have a profound impact on the singer. They hold their sadness during cold nights, symbolizing a time of loneliness and reflection, and emphasize that they never forget that the other person was always right. This could indicate a sense of admiration or acknowledgement of the other person's importance in their life.
The repetition of the chorus emphasizes the conflicting emotions experienced by the singer. They struggle with the pain of the relationship ending or the person walking away, yet acknowledge that it feels right to have the person with them, even if it is just for a moment. The final line, "Rest in me tonight," can be seen as a plea for emotional solace or a desire for the other person to find peace within the singer's presence.
Overall, the lyrics suggest a complex relationship characterized by longing, inner conflict, and a deep connection that the singer can't fully escape. It conveys the bittersweet experience of being with someone who may not be right for them but still holds a significant place in their heart. The song captures the complicated nature of love, where even the best and worst moments can coexist.
