@JustinGuitar Songs He is absolutely incredible. Have you ever tried to learn tomorrow tomorrow off of xo? It honestly feels like attempting to learn a classical guitar piece because it is extraordinarily intricate, and has some of the most complicated chord changes I’ve ever seen. Not to mention a beautiful melody on top of all that. I totally agree with you that he is right up there with all of the best songwriters, but he also holds in own as a guitar player. Cheers!

Justin, thank you so much for this! A quick question, do you know anything about whether Elliott only used his thumb to down-strum, so that his index finger only did up-strums? This seems to be the case, but it's hard to tell. Thanks for all your work!

When I saw you transcribing Elliott songs earlier this week I went back and listened to albums by Elliott again, and I remembered why I fell in love with them and been listening nonstop all week. I learned this one a couple years ago but forgotten it, so I'll be coming back to this the next couple of days. I've always wanted to learn Everything Reminds Me of Her as well so I'm really looking forward to your lesson! :) (In the future a great intermediate song could be Somebody That I Used To Know! ). Thanks Justin. A beautiful song wonderfully played. Elliott was one of those rare artists who did very few duff songs in his career and had such a unique style. Anyone wanting to get into his stuff I would recommend his self-titled album to start with. Very low-fi and recorded on a 4 track I think - he's an artist who is very easy to become obsessed with if you give him a chance.

This song kicked my ass a few years back. I had to learn it by ear and learn all those finger picking pattern which are so hard lol Travis picking on steroids. I love Elliott Smith’s music, I miss him so much... thank you for the lesson, I learned a few things and I agree with everything you said about him, he was such a great musician, it’s a shame we lost him so soon :(

Not sure whether this was mentioned but Elliott sings the second line ("trailing some new kill" ) with the first word on the 1st beat of the next bar, which is different than what Justin is doing here. In any case, thank you Justin for the detailed tutorial, really appreciate it!

Should’ve checked out ‘Ethan’s Guitar Lessons and Music’ he did a tutorial of this song, I learn’t it off him about a year ago. Justin’s tutorial here is good but some of his chords were off, whereas the one Ethan did was spot on with how Elliott played it.

Almost! After the hit on the D, you'd pinch both E strings. Then, there's a couple hits after the high E, before the next chord. So it'd be:

E - D+e - E - B - D | E+e - B - D - e - E - B - D
