K-Ci and JoJo's first sign of independence came in 1994 when K-Ci covered Bobby Womack's hit "If You Think You're Lonely Now" for the movie Jason's Lyric. Early in 1996, K-Ci and Jo-Jo teamed up for the song "How Could You" for the movie Bulletproof starring Damon Wayans and Adam Sandler.
By July 1996, K-Ci and JoJo finally had a hit on their hands as guest artists in 2Pac's number-one R&B hit "How Do U Want It". It also topped the Billboard Hot 100. The brothers made their side projects into a full album, Love Always. Released on June 17, 1997, the album spawned two top-ten R&B hits: "You Bring Me Up" and "Last Night's Letter". "All My Life" was the number-one song on the Hot 100 for three weeks, a feat that K-Ci and Jo-Jo had never achieved with Jodeci.Love Always went on to sell four million copies, and the success of the album put Jodeci's reunion on hold indefinitely.
Their second album,It's Real, was released on June 22, 1999. It spawned one major hit "Tell Me It's Real" which peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard's R&B charts. K-Ci and Jo-Jo returned with X on December 5, 2000. "X", the Roman numeral for ten, was picked as the album title to celebrate the Haileys' tenth anniversary in the music business. They made a strong return to the Billboard Hot 100 early in 2001 with the song "Crazy", also included on the Save the Last Dance soundtrack. "Crazy" peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100.
The fourth K-Ci and Jo-Jo album, Emotional, was released on November 26, 2002, but failed to find commercial success. K-Ci and JoJo released a greatest hits album on February 8, 2005. They are believed to have teamed back up with DeVante Swing and Mr. Dalvin for a Jodeci reunion album.

I'm sitting here thinking about what you did
Trying to figure out exactly what love is
Baby, see I never knew that I'd be a fool
And let you take control of my heart
Ohhh, Ohhh, Whyyy
Why, did you hurt me?
Why, am I here all alone?
For so damn long
How can I love again?
When all the love that I have is for you
And how can I feel again?
With all the drama you put me through
And how can I trust?
With all of the lying it's hard to do
How can I go on?
How can I ever fall in love again?
How can I ever get to feel again?
How can I ever get to trust you again?
I can't go blamin' no one but myself
Ohh, I don't even want to think about loving no one else
Mmm no, I guarantee that you will see
That this would never happen again
Not to me (not to me), not to me (not to me)
Ohh, Whoo
Why, did you hurt me?
And why, am I here all alone?
Why, did I trust you for so damn long?
Tell me, why did I love you?
Why, did we try for damn long?
Why, did I let you into my heart?
Repeat Chorus 2x
I want to know, I gotta know
Ohh, tell me how?
I can't blame nobody but myself
I don't know nobody loving you but nobody else but me
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
The lyrics of K-Ci & JoJo's song 'How Can I Trust You' express the pain and confusion felt by someone who has been betrayed by a loved one. The singer is trying to come to terms with the fact that they were foolish to trust their partner, who hurt them and has now left them alone. The repetition of the question "why" serves to highlight the singer's sense of disbelief and hurt, while also expressing the desire to understand how things could go so wrong.
The chorus shows the singer grappling with the aftermath of the betrayal - they are left wondering how they can ever love, feel, or trust again. The pain and damage caused by their partner's deceit is so great that the singer cannot imagine being able to move on and have a healthy relationship with anyone else. In the end, the singer acknowledges that they cannot blame anyone but themselves for their situation, but also makes it clear that they cannot bear the thought of loving anyone else.

All I can do
Is sit alone
In my room
Thinking about you
How could it be
That you are not here with me
When I gave you the best of me
I face each day
Without a smile
And life is so unfair
I feel like I wanna die
Cause you didn't give me
Give me a last goodbye
I've waited weeks for your call
I've waited here by the phone
But when the silence grew long
I knew that something was wrong
Right then I knew it babe
How could you do it babe
How could you tear my poor heart in two
How could you do it babe
Do it, do it, do it
How could you do it babe
Tear my poor heart in two
Ain't no more blue up in my sky
Only cloudy mornings
And these tears like rain you left behind
All of those memories
In the corners of my mind
I started looking at us
At a picture in a frame
As I start to cry
Cause I can't picture us apart
Oh my god can you help me
With this pain I'm feeling
I'm feeling deep down inside
Girl tell me it's not true
Will I have to spend the rest of my life without you
How can I get through
This pain of loosing you

This is my all-time favorite slow jam of the 90s. This was a phenomenal era of R&B music. K-Ci & JoJo were brilliant songwriters and singers.
