K-Ci and JoJo's first sign of independence came in 1994 when K-Ci covered Bobby Womack's hit "If You Think You're Lonely Now" for the movie Jason's Lyric. Early in 1996, K-Ci and Jo-Jo teamed up for the song "How Could You" for the movie Bulletproof starring Damon Wayans and Adam Sandler.
By July 1996, K-Ci and JoJo finally had a hit on their hands as guest artists in 2Pac's number-one R&B hit "How Do U Want It". It also topped the Billboard Hot 100. The brothers made their side projects into a full album, Love Always. Released on June 17, 1997, the album spawned two top-ten R&B hits: "You Bring Me Up" and "Last Night's Letter". "All My Life" was the number-one song on the Hot 100 for three weeks, a feat that K-Ci and Jo-Jo had never achieved with Jodeci.Love Always went on to sell four million copies, and the success of the album put Jodeci's reunion on hold indefinitely.
Their second album,It's Real, was released on June 22, 1999. It spawned one major hit "Tell Me It's Real" which peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard's R&B charts. K-Ci and Jo-Jo returned with X on December 5, 2000. "X", the Roman numeral for ten, was picked as the album title to celebrate the Haileys' tenth anniversary in the music business. They made a strong return to the Billboard Hot 100 early in 2001 with the song "Crazy", also included on the Save the Last Dance soundtrack. "Crazy" peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100.
The fourth K-Ci and Jo-Jo album, Emotional, was released on November 26, 2002, but failed to find commercial success. K-Ci and JoJo released a greatest hits album on February 8, 2005. They are believed to have teamed back up with DeVante Swing and Mr. Dalvin for a Jodeci reunion album.

On this song because
Me and my mama was watching the news the other day and
We saw a lot of thangs that's goin' on in the world
And mama just happen to just come up with some lyrics to a song
She said "I want y'all to sing this song for me on this CD
Cuz y'all never sang a song for me before"
And ah, this was written by mama
She said
We all need that kind of love
That special love
The love from above
We all need that kind of love
That special love
The love from above
Look into the mirror of life
And tell me what you see
I see people all over the world
Who needs to know the meaning of love
Let me tell you what real love is all about
If you see a man down, don't step on him
Reach down and pick him up
Pick him up, give him a helping hand
We all need that kind of love
That special love
The love from above
We all need that kind of love
That special love
The love from above
Oh, see that mother over there
Strugglin' to survive
She has about five little children
No food or clothes to put on their backs
And what you should do
If you see somebody like that
You should go up to them
Lend them a helping hand
Offer a roof over their head
'Cause the world is in need of love like that
We all need that kind of love
That special love
The love from above
We all need that kind of love
That special love
The love from above
K-Ci help me, K-Ci help me
Tell 'em where we need love
USA, Africa, Bosnia, Ethiopia
Korea and China, even Iraq too
Even in Haiti
That's what we all need
We all need that kind of love
That special love
The love from above
We all need that kind of love
That special love
The love from above
The song "Momma's Song" by K-Ci & JoJo is a touching tribute to the special love and wisdom that K-Ci & JoJo's mother imparted to them. The lyrics of the song were actually written by their mother, which adds extra significance to the message she is expressing. The song opens with K-Ci explaining that he and his mother were watching the news and talking about the many problems in the world when she suddenly came up with some lyrics for a song. She wanted K-Ci & JoJo to sing it for her on their CD, and the resulting song is a powerful reminder of the importance of love, compassion, and kindness.
The chorus of "Momma's Song" emphasizes the need for a special, divine love that comes from above, which can help us find meaning and purpose in life. The verses of the song focus on concrete ways that we can show love to those around us, from offering a helping hand to those in need, to lending assistance to struggling mothers with young children. The song emphasizes the importance of looking out for one another in a world where people often feel isolated and alone. It's a call to action for listeners to be strong, compassionate, and loving in their interactions with others.
