Quickly after the group's formation in 1992, K-Otix established itself as a formidable live act, extensively touring throughout Texas and even winning an award at the 1995 Gavin Convention in New Orleans. By the time that their first official release surfaced in 1997, the Spontaneity EP, an already sizable fan base, teased for years by dirtily reproduced demo tapes, collectively jumped at the chance to purchase their finished material. Indeed the high quality of the independently released record, as well as the buzz that it created, was enough to initiate a collaboration with legendary Philadelphia DJ Cash Money called "Do You Wanna Be an MC." On top of that, K-Otix also landed a major distribution deal by signing to Bronx Science. A series of singles put out by the New York-based label garnered much excitement surrounding K-Otix as songs such as "Mind Over Matter" and "World Renown" entered radio play lists across the country. With the release of their first full-length album, titled Universal, in 2001, K-Otix had truly become an international draw. Within the next year or so, tours of Japan and Europe were mingled amongst single collaborations with the Lone Catalysts and Dallas radio personality Head Krack. Refueling with a new series of recordings released on their own K-Otix imprint, both Hustler's Theme and The Black Album were unleashed in 2002. While the former presents the Are working with a cast of emcees that includes Count Bass D, Truth Enola, D-Ology, and K of Example, the latter features Damien and Mic rhyming over their own production.

The Reason
K-Otix Lyrics

Was it me? Was it you?
Tell me is the sky blue
Go ahead and tell me how you feelin'
Away from me, how are you?
Girl, I just don't know what to do without you
Now I'm just being myself
Like there ain't nobody else in the whole wide world now
Start believing myself, watch the world start to slow down
Tell me what's the reason?
She told me lately shes been feeling alone
Prolly cuz I turned my back like I was wearing VLone
She said, "I can't believe this shit, how I'm 'supposed to find a new one who could treat me like this?"
But then she moved on real quick
Cuz I put her on a quest, she was addicted to dick, yeah
Now maybe I'm just being narcissistic
It's just hard to revisit when your past look like this one
Its time to start being realistic
Should I be being pessimistic?
Or maybe stop and give a listen
Everything I do is up to me
But what do you want it to be?
Tell me what it gonna be, yeah yeah
Now, will it just be you and me?
Maybe something by the three
Well just have to wait and see, yeah yeah
Girl tell me what's the reason
Was it me? Was it you?
Tell me is the sky blue
Go ahead and tell me how you feelin'
Away from me, how are you?
Girl, I just don't know what to do without you
Now I'm just being myself
Like there ain't nobody else in the whole wide world now
I try to keep to myself
Start believing myself, watch the world start to slow down
Watch the world start to slow down
Watch the world start to slow down
The lyrics to K-Otix's song The Reason is a conversation between the artist and a girl he's asking questions. He wants to know what the reason is for their breakup. He's at a loss and needs answers to whether it was him or the girl who ended things. He goes on to ask her how she's feeling now that she's away from him. As the song progresses, he reflects on his past behaviors and how he may have been the cause of their breakup. The artist admits to turning his back on her and neglecting her, which led her to seek comfort from someone else. He realizes that he needs to start being realistic about the situation and take responsibility for his actions.
In general, the lyrics of The Reason deal with themes of loss, reflection, and personal responsibility. It is a poignant reminder of how important it is to communicate with our partners and engage in meaningful conversations to keep our relationships alive. The use of metaphors such as "is the sky blue" and "watch the world start to slow down" adds depth to the song's meaning and interpretation.
