You know it used to be mad love
So take a look what you've done
'Cause, baby, now we got bad blood
Hey
Now we got problems
And I don't think we can solve them
So take a look at what you've done
Hey
Did you have to do this?
I was thinking that you could be trusted
Did you have to ruin
What was shiny and now it's all rusted
Did you have to hurt me
When I'm weak, baby, I couldn't breathe
And rub it in so deep
Salt in the wound like you're laughing right at me
Oh, it's so sad to think about the good times, you and I
'Cause, baby, now we got bad blood
You know it used to be mad love
So take a look what you've done
'Cause, baby, now we got bad blood
Hey
Now we got problems
And I don't think we can solve them
So take a look at what you've done
And, baby, now we got bad blood
Hey
Did you think we'd be fine?
I don't think I want you back in my life
So don't think it's in the past
These kinda wounds they last and they last
Now did you think it all through?
All these things will catch up to you
And time can heal but this won't
So if you're coming my way, just don't
Oh, it's so sad to think about the good times, you and I
'Cause, baby, now we got bad blood
You know it used to be mad love
So take a look what you've done
'Cause, baby, now we got bad blood
Hey
Now we got problems
And I don't think we can solve them
So take a look at what you've done
And, baby, now we got bad blood
Hey
Band-aids don't fix don't you know
You say sorry just for show
If you live like that, you live with ghosts (ghosts)
Mhmm
If you love like that blood runs cold
'Cause, baby, now we got bad blood
You know it used to be mad love (mad love)
So take a look what you've done
'Cause, baby, now we got bad blood
Hey
Now we got problems
And I don't think we can solve them (think we can solve them)
So take a look at what you've done
And, baby, now we got bad blood
(Hey)
"Bad Blood" is a song about a former close relationship that has turned sour. The opening lines of the song suggest that the two people in the relationship previously had a strong bond but have now split, and things are not going well between them. The chorus of the song emphasizes the bitterness that now permeates the relationship- now that they have "bad blood" between them. They have "problems," and the persona feels that they cannot be resolved.
The bridge of the song suggests that the persona trusted the other person to be faithful to them emotionally, but they betrayed that trust. They ruined something that was once vibrant and shiny, leaving it tarnished and rusted, and hurt them deeply, making it hard for them to breathe. The lyrics in the bridge also suggest that the other person rubs their betrayal in the persona's face- adding salt to the wound.
The chorus is repeated, emphasizing the fact that the relationship is over and cannot be remedied. The outro of the song emphasizes that apologies and band-aids cannot fix the deep hurt that they have caused, and that the other person cannot live with ghosts if they choose to "love like that."
