But no one's ever left me quite this sore
Your words cut deeper than a knife
Now I need someone to breathe me back to life
Got a feeling that I'm going under
But I know that I'll make it out alive
If I quit calling you my lover
You watch me run until I can't breathe
Shaking falling onto my knees
And now that I'm without your kisses
I'll be needing stitches
Tripping over myself
Aching, begging you to come help
And now that I'm without your kisses
I'll be needing stitches
Just like a moth drawn to a flame
Oh you lured me in I couldn't sense the pain
Your bitter heart cold to the touch
Now I'm gonna reap what I sew
I'm left seeing red on my own?
Got a feeling that I'm going under
But I know that I'll make it out alive
If I quit calling you my lover
Move on
You watch me run until I can't breathe
Shaking falling onto my knees
And now that I'm without your kisses
I'll be needing stitches
Tripping over myself
Aching, begging you to come help
And now that I'm without your kisses
I'll be needing stitches
Needle and the thread
Gotta get you out of my head
Needle and the thread
Gonna wind up dead
Needle and the thread
Gotta get you out of my head
Needle and the thread
Gonna wind up dead
Gonna wind up dead
Gotta get you out of my
Gotta get you out of my head
Needle and the thread (gonna wind up dead)
Gotta get you out of, gotta get you out of my head, get you out of my head
You watch me run until I can't breathe
Shaking falling onto my knees (falling on my knees)
And now that I'm without your kisses
I'll be needing stitches (and I'll be needing stitches)
Tripping over myself
Aching, begging you to come help (begging baby please)
And now that I'm without your kisses
I'll be needing stitches
And now that I'm without your kisses
I'll be needing stitches
And now that I'm without your kisses
I'll be needing stitches
The lyrics of "Stitches" explore the pain and aftermath of a hurtful breakup. The singer expresses that they thought they had been hurt in the past, but nothing compares to the pain caused by their recent breakup. The words of their ex-partner have deeply wounded them, leaving them feeling emotionally raw and in need of someone to help them heal and find themselves again.
The singer admits that they feel like they are sinking or going under due to the emotional turmoil caused by the breakup. However, they have hope that they will eventually overcome this pain and come out stronger. They acknowledge that they need to let go of the past and stop referring to their ex as their lover in order to move on.
The chorus emphasizes the singer's vulnerability and desperation, using vivid imagery to depict their struggle. They feel like they are running away from their emotions until they can no longer breathe. They are physically and emotionally shaken, falling onto their knees in anguish. Without their ex's affection and kisses, they feel a sense of emptiness and realize they will need time to heal from their wounds, just like stitches would be needed to close a physical wound.
The second verse compares the singer's attraction to their ex to a moth being drawn to a flame. They were lured into the relationship without realizing the pain that would follow. The ex is described as having a cold and bitter heart, which contrasts with the singer's own vulnerability. The line about "reaping what I sew" suggests that the singer will face the consequences of their actions and choices in the relationship.
The bridge of the song emphasizes the singer's determination to get their ex out of their mind. They view their thoughts of their ex as a needle and thread, symbolizing the need to cut the attachment and move on. However, the mention of "gonna wind up dead" suggests that the process of letting go is difficult and painful.
In the final repetition of the chorus and outro, the singer reiterates their need for stitches, emphasizing that the absence of their ex's affection has left them wounded and in need of healing. The repetition emphasizes the ongoing struggle and the lingering pain caused by the breakup.
