Bad Boys
KITCHEN - Wham! Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
Dear mummy, dear daddy,
You had plans for me, I was your only son.
And long before this baby boy could count to three,
You knew just what he would become.
Run along to school,
Run along to school.
When you tried to tell me what to do,
I just shut my mouth and smiled at you,
One thing that I know for sure
Bad boys
Stick together, never sad boys
Good guys
They made rules for fools, so get wise
Dear Mummy, Dear Daddy,
Now I'm nineteen as you see,
I'm handsome, tall, and strong.
So what the hell gives you the right to look at me,
As if to say "Hell, what went wrong?"
Where were you last night?
You look as if you had a fight.
Where were you last night?
Well I think that you may just be right,
But don't try to keep me in tonight,
Because I'm big enough to break down the door.
Bad boys
Stick together, never Sad Boys
Good guys
They made rules for fools, so get wise
Boys like you, are bad through and through.
Still,
Girls like me, always seem to be with you
We can't help but worry,
You're in such a hurry,
Mixing with the wrong boys,
Playing with the wrong toys.
Easy girls,
And late nights,
Cigarettes, and love bites
Why do you have to be so cruel?
You're such a fool
[Chorus: x2]
The lyrics to "Bad Boys" by Wham! portray a rebellious and defiant attitude towards parental authority and societal expectations. The song addresses the parents directly, expressing frustration and resentment towards their attempts to control and dictate the singer's life. The lyrics start with the singer as a child, reflecting on how the parents had plans for him, but even at a young age, there was a sense of defiance and a refusal to conform.
As the song progresses, the singer grows older and challenges the parents' right to judge his choices and actions. The lyrics suggest that the singer has become independent and self-assured, asserting his strength and attractiveness. There is a feeling of resentment towards the parents' judgment, as if they are questioning what went wrong with his life.
The chorus emphasizes the idea of "bad boys" sticking together and the idea that the rules set by "good guys" are for fools. It suggests a camaraderie among those who choose to defy societal norms and expectations. The lyrics also touch upon the complexity of relationships, highlighting the repetitive pattern of girls being attracted to "bad boys" despite the worry and concern they cause.
Overall, "Bad Boys" conveys a rebellious and defiant attitude towards authority figures and societal expectations, suggesting that conformity is not the desired path for the singer.

My Dad used to work for him, his driver. Apparently & unlike many others, George would always prefer to sit at the front & would quite often from nowhere bust out a song & start singing. He told me that it was hard to fathom the scale of his talent, it simply defied belief. What George Michael did in entertaining us during his career was exactly what he was put on this Earth to do. You can't be that good for any other reason. His passing was a disaster & it still stings me but you just can't help but smile when watching this. An incredible artist.

Let’s hear it for Andrew who was a massive part of Wham and set George on his path to success, a talent of which we all got to be touched by. Bless Andrew and his now or never attitude. 💜
