In KK's song "Vegbúinn," the lyrics talk about an individual who is on a journey, trying to find their place in the world. The first verse states, "Þú færð aldrei að gleyma, Þegar ferðu á stjá, Þú átt hvergi heima, Nema veginum á," which translates to "You will never forget, when you set off on the path, You belong nowhere, except on the road." These lines convey the idea that the person feels a constant restlessness and a longing for the open road. They don't feel at home in any specific place but rather find solace in their continuous movement.
The second verse describes the emotional state of the individual on this journey. It says, "Með angur í hjarta, Og dirfskunnar móð, Þú ferð þína eigin, Ótroðnu slóð," which means "With a burden in your heart, And weariness in your soul, You travel your own, Untrodden path." These lines express the inner turmoil and weariness that the person carries along with them. Despite the weight on their heart and soul, they persist on an unconventional path, not afraid to venture into the unknown.
The chorus, "Vegbúi, sestu mér hjá, Segðu mér sögur, Já, segðu mér frá, Þú áttir von, nú er vonin farin á brott, Flogin í veg" translates to "Road dweller, sit beside me, Tell me stories, Yes, tell me about it, You had hope, now hope has gone away, Flown away on the road." In these lines, the person is inviting a road dweller to share their stories. It suggests that even though the singer may feel lost and without hope, they still find comfort in hearing tales from fellow travelers who have experienced similar journeys.
Overall, "Vegbúinn" explores the theme of a person's quest for a sense of belonging, their restlessness, and the emotional toll that comes with a nomadic spirit.
