Anarchy
KMFDM Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You won't break me
All is black
But I still see
Shut me down
Save me from myself
Shoot me up
Let me burn in hell
Trapped under ice
Comfortably cold
I've gone as low as you can go
Feel no remorse
No sense of shame
Time's gonna wash away all pain
I made a god
Out of blood
Not superiority
I killed the king
Of deceit
Now I sleep in anarchy
Sacrifice to the cause
Turn your code into law
Compensate to validate the loss
Take a thief, nail him to a cross
Gospel of rage
Faction of hate
Deviate from the absolute
Born of revenge
Raised on cement
Chaos created government
I made a god out of blood
Not superiority
I killed the king
Of deceit
Now I sleep in anarchy
I made a god out of blood
Not superiority
I killed the king
Of deceit
Wake me up in anarchy
KMFDM's "Anarchy" is an aggressive song that touches on themes of rebellion, revenge, and chaos. The opening lines, "You break my back, you won't break me / All is black, but I still see" suggest that the singer has been pushed to their limit and may feel defeated, but still has a sense of awareness and a fighting spirit. The lines "Shoot me up, let me burn in hell" may be interpreted as the singer's desire for the ultimate release and destruction, possibly fueled by their anger and pain.
The chorus, "I made a god out of blood / Not superiority / I killed the king of deceit / Now I sleep in anarchy," suggests that the singer has taken matters into their own hands and has dethroned a corrupt and dishonest ruler. They have created a new world order or system, founded on their own principles and fueled by their own bloodshed. The idea of sleeping in anarchy may suggest both freedom from oppression and chaos, as well as the possibility of danger and uncertainty.
The bridge, "Sacrifice to the cause / Turn your code into law / Compensate to validate the loss / Take a thief, nail him to a cross," further emphasizes the idea of violence and sacrifice necessary to create and maintain anarchy. It suggests that the singer and their followers are willing to go to any lengths to achieve their ends, including hurting innocent people.
Overall, "Anarchy" is an intense and thought-provoking song that touches on themes of rebellion, violence, and the human desire for freedom and autonomy. Its lyrics are open to interpretation and may be seen as a commentary on contemporary politics and societal issues.

This song got me through SO many angry moments, and good times on the dance floor back in 2002-2007 <3

Saw them in concert in Seattle back in 2015. I swear, I never sweated so much and spent so much energy just trying to stand still, especially as I was right up front before Sasha and Lucia. That was one of the most cathartic experiences of my life, when every last human being in that space was merged into a giant mound of pulsating flesh. Got an autograph from Sasha before the show and a fist-bump from Lucia at the end. They truly are one of my favorite bands! <3

I was listening to kmfdm when I was in eighth grade back in 1992. I too was bullied but I didn't decide to become a serial killer. To this day music is still my escape.
