So What
KMFDM & Ministry Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Die! die! die! die!
Scum sucking depravity debauched!
Anal fuck-fest, thrill olympics
Savage scourge supply and sanctify
So what? so what?
Die! die! die! die!

Die! die! die! die!
You said it!
Sedatives supplied become laxatives
My eyes shit out lies
I only kill to know I'm alive
So what? so what?
Die! die! die! die!

Die! die! die! die!
So what, it's your problem to learn to live with
Destroy us, or make us saints
We don't care, it's not our fault that we were born too late
A screaming headache on the brow of the state
Killing time is appropriate
To make a mess and fuck all the rest, we say, we say
So what? so what?
Die! die! die! die!

Die!
Now I know what is right
I'll kill them all if I like
I'm a time bomb inside
No one listens to reason,

It's too late and I'm ready to fight!
So what? now I'm ready to fight!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to KMFDM & Ministry's song So What? are aggressive and intense, depicting a nihilistic and hedonistic ethos. The repetition of "Die! die! die! die!" is startling and visceral, portraying a desire for destruction and chaos. The lyrics that follow continue this theme with descriptions of depravity, violence, and drug use. The lines "I only kill to know I'm alive" and "Killing time is appropriate" suggest a sense of existential ennui or desperation. The phrase "So what?" functions as a nihilistic mantra, a dismissal of societal norms, ethics, and consequences.

In the second verse, the song takes on a more political dimension, with lines like "Destroy us, or make us saints/We don't care, it's not our fault that we were born too late." This could be interpreted as a commentary on the ennui and frustration of youth culture in the late 80s and early 90s, in the context of a deteriorating social and economic climate. The line "A screaming headache on the brow of the state" could be read as a metaphorical representation of this cultural malaise, while the call to "make a mess and fuck all the rest" reflects a sense of rebelliousness and defiance in the face of societal norms.

Overall, the lyrics to So What? paint a picture of nihilism, hedonism, and countercultural rebellion, expressed in aggressive and provocative language. This message is complemented by the driving industrial beat and distorted guitars that make up the sonic landscape of the song.

This combo works in a parallel universe. I kinda like it. Not to be taken too seriously

Johanna Bice

This is one of the best remixes I've ever heard  of ministry

richmltn

Hope this is sarcasm. The version of both songs came right off the album; this is just two recorda, sloppily overlapping each other. Very disappointing.

Charles Shaner

Fukin killer!🤘

Chaotic Atmosphere

The problem here is that KMFDM never collaborated with Ministry, except for touring with each other. This mix is by the users and not the bands themselves.

Lee Popa
