Spiral
Kaela & Sofi Tukker Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

Oh, oh
Grief like a spiral
I'm like a child
Falling and getting up
Swimming in dream matter
Oh it doesn't matter
Oh it's such a pattern
Wake me when it's over
Grief like a spiral
I'm like a child
Falling and getting up
Swimming in dream matter
Oh it doesn't matter
Oh it's such a pattern
Wake me when it's over
Grief like a spiral
I'm like a child
Falling and getting up
Swimming in dream matter
Oh it doesn't matter
Oh it's such a pattern
Wake me when it's over
Grief like a spiral
I'm like a child
Falling and getting up
Swimming in dream matter
Oh it doesn't matter
Oh it's such a pattern
Wake me when it's over
Wake me when it's over
Wake me when it's over (Find me next)
Wake me when it's over
Wake me when it's over (Find me next)
Oh, oh
Wake me when it's over
Wake me when it's over (Find me next)
Oh, oh
Wake me when it's over
Wake me when it's over
Find me next lifetime
Cus I would do it again
But it wouldn't be the same thing
Won't be fucking your friend
Don't know about our radical ideals
Just cus it feels good doesn't mean it is good
Everything changes
Everything changes
Everything changes
Grief like a spiral
I'm like a child
Falling and getting up
Swimming in dream matter
Oh it doesn't matter
Oh it's such a pattern
Wake me when it's over
Grief like a spiral
I'm like a child
Falling and getting up
Swimming in dream matter
Oh it doesn't matter
Oh it's such a pattern
Wake me when it's over
Wake me when it's over
Wake me when it's over (Find me next)
Wake me when it's over
Wake me when it's over (Find me next)
Oh you're so funny when you hit that line
When you call me at night just to say you're mine
Swimming in dream matter (Oh you're so funny when you hit that line)
Oh doesn't matter
Oh such a pattern
Wake me when it's over
Oh doesn't matter (When you call me at night just to say you're mine)
Oh doesn't matter
Oh such a pattern
Wake me when it's over
Dream matter (Oh you're so funny when you hit that line)
Oh doesn't matter
Oh such a pattern
Wake me when it's over
Doesn't matter (When you call me at night just to say you're mine)
Oh doesn't matter
Oh such a pattern
Wake me when it's over
Grief like a spiral
I'm like a child
Falling and getting up
Swimming in dream matter
Oh it doesn't matter
Oh it's such a pattern
Wake me when it's over
Grief like a spiral
I'm like a child
Falling and getting up
Swimming in dream matter
Oh it doesn't matter
Oh it's such a pattern
Wake me when it's over
Grief like a spiral
I'm like a child
Falling and getting up
Swimming in dream matter
Oh it doesn't matter
Oh it's such a pattern
Wake me when it's over

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Spiral" by Kaela & Sofi Tukker convey a deep sense of emotional turmoil and growth, likening the experience of grief to a never-ending spiral. The repetition of phrases like "Grief like a spiral" and "I'm like a child, falling and getting up" captures the cyclical nature of emotional pain and the resilience required to navigate through it. The imagery of swimming in dream matter signifies a sense of being immersed in a surreal and sometimes overwhelming emotional landscape.

The plea to "Wake me when it's over" reflects a desire to escape from the pain and confusion that grief brings, highlighting a sense of longing for relief or resolution. This repetition throughout the song emphasizes the feeling of being stuck in a loop of sorrow and struggling to break free from it. The lines "Find me next lifetime, 'cause I would do it again" suggest a willingness to endure the pain of loss once more, while acknowledging that each experience is unique and cannot be replicated.

The reference to "fucking your friend" and "our radical ideals" hints at tumultuous relationships and conflicting values that may have contributed to the feelings of grief and instability. The lyrics caution against mistaking temporary pleasures for lasting fulfillment, reminding listeners that "just 'cause it feels good doesn't mean it is good." This line serves as a poignant reminder to assess the true value and impact of our actions and choices.

Overall, the song paints a vivid picture of emotional upheaval and the complexities of navigating grief and change. It conveys a sense of longing for resolution, a yearning for a sense of closure or understanding amidst the chaos of emotions. The repeated refrains and haunting vocals create a sense of urgency and a desire to break free from the cycle of pain and find peace.

I love this remix so much! I met Sophie and Tucker when I was playing with M83 and they were opening, and like soo many people I fell in love with them and their music!! Thankfully we stayed in touch, and when I wrote “Spiral” I thought of them for it thinking it would fit their style for a remix + I couldn’t stop daydreaming of their sound on it. Well, they said yes and I’m so happy that they did and that it’s out now! Hope you all enjoy it as much as I do! 💜

Daydreaming is exactly the word for it! You have the most soothing voice I've heard in a long while, which suits this song incredibly well. Keep doing what you do, and I'll be sure to continue listening!

We love this remix + we love Kaela! 4 years ago we went on tour with M83 and the band were all so welcoming & nice to us. We became good friends with the insanely talented keyboardist, Kaela Sinclair. When we heard her solo project and Spiral, we immediately loved it. Releasing stuff with friends is the best thing ever 💜
